Wheel Cleaner

I protect my wheels with Klasse SG and then I use something like the attached picture to really clean my wheels. I am not aware of a wheel cleaner that you don't have to hose off with water.

Not only that, but I wouldn't want any cleaner drying on my wheels. Too much potential for possibly staining them. I agree with adjulian.....I use SG on my wheels, and when I wash the car, I simply use a 'wheels-only' sponge and soap and water. They clean up easily this way.

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

Q: I’ve seen a wheel cleaner that you just spray on and then hose off, should I use them?

A: These are acid-based cleaners that contain phosphoric and hydachloric acids that will etch and in time dull the wheels surface finish. The milder (safe) wheel cleaners need to be applied and then agitated with a soft brush before removal. These cleaners are 100% acid-free and will not damage wheel surfaces. Apply a sealant after cleaning to make maintenance easier (wax has a lower melting point than a sealant and the wheel usually obtain a temperature in excess of this (185oF+)

I’ve never seen nor would I use a wheel cleaner that you apply and leave on the surface to dry and etch the finish.

~Hope this helps~

Talked to Scott over at SMP about S&W, great stuff for washing the car, but if the wheels are pretty messed up S&W will not do the job. He told me for maintenance S&W will be great. What I need to do is find me one of those stall places that have a faucet in the back so I can load my bucket with water and use a nice shampoo and only use the rinse from the wand.

Amen! If the wheels are really dirty, S&W won't do the trick. I just assumed that any Autopian was washing/protecting regularly and didn't need "hard-core" cleaning.

Eggroll - the brush is actually used in the kitchen to clean glasses and other dishware. I pick mine up locally at KMart but you can also pick them up online. If you do a GOOGLE search for Kitchen Puff - you will find them for like $1.39.

They are great to really get into the wheels. Someone here at Autopia turned me on to them, I just can't remember who?
