Wheel Cleaner

Guys,

The wheels on my car are a b*tch to clean, they're the volvo arrakis wheels. Many, many spokes, so many that the wheels take as long to clean as the rest of the car. I've tried the sonus gel, :down, I've tried the eagle one cleaner, :down. I bought several wheel brushes and find them all to be harder to use then a good old sponge. Is there any cleaner that I can just spray on and wash off?



BTW, BJ's has stoner invisible glass, 3 cans for $8.99. :up :up

The strongest and safest product I have ever used was P21S. If your rims are a pain then it's going to be very time consuming to clean them either way. I would rather spend the extra time cleaning them then risk any damage with a harsh product.



P21S is pretty strong, are you cleaning them often? If not; no matter what you use the rims are always going to be a pain if you wait too long between cleanings. I have pads that create more dust than I have seen on a car to date and if I cleaned my rims really well once and once a week the P21S spray on/off would work perfect.



A sharp jet of water can sometimes help as well.
 
Without a pressure washer you will always need to agitate to remove the dirt. I use Valugard wheel cleaner and a pressure washer and dont need to agitate. Of course this works if you keep up with them on a regular basis. I spray ProActive QD from Pro Products Prowax.com and wipe off and the wheels stay pretty clean and are much easier to clean the next time.
 
WOW! That was quick, yeah I wash the car at least once a week. I don't let them get too dirty. In the past with other cars I've actually waxed the wheels. these wheels have to be the most intricate wheels I've seen. When I was getting the car (volvo s80), I looked at the wheels and thought, man those are going to be a pain. They look great though. I'll try some of the products that you've listed, but it sounds like its always going to be a chore.

I have the Valu Gaurd Omni All Purpose Cleaner. Is this what your using to spray on/spray off on your rims?



What water to product ratio are you using and how long do you let it sit?
 
dmarcus48 - We were discussing this wheel cleaning thing on another thread on the University forum. I like Griot's small ("detail") boar's hair brushes for wheels. Some people use foam paintbrushes. Another idea is to get some MF gloves and do them, literally, by hand. I'm trying to visualize your wheels but I'm not that current on Volvos.



Like BradNC, I use Griot's wheel cleaner. VERY similar to P21S, cheaper by the gallon. It works fine diluted a bit, too. But I doubt any safe wheel cleaner will work much better than your Sonus.



Be careful with the spray-on/hose-off cleaners, you wouldn't want to have to get your wheels refinished.
 
I use the Custom Wheel Cleaner. I dont like Omni for cleaning wheels, although is can be used for that. Omni should always be used at the recommended dilution ratio otherwise it wont work as it should.
 
I only use p21s gel cleaner. Works great and I don't have to let it sit long at all. You also might want to try sealing your wheels with aio and sg to facilitate cleaning.
 
I had used the eagle one a2z on wet wheels. I got it with a brush I ordered from CMA, figured I give it a try. The directions said that if the wheel was hot to cool it off with water. Do you think it would work better on dry wheels? BTW, I got the MF gloves too.

Aha! :D The directions on A2Z actually say to use it on DRY wheels. If they're too hot, I would just wait for them to cool. I know another member who was using A2Z on wet wheels and didn' think it worked that well. Once he started to use it on dry wheels he found it worked much better. This is strong stuff - spray on, rinse off. Give A2Z another shot I say! :xyxthumbs
 
I have Turtle Wax Formula 2001 foaming wheel cleaner.



It says to spray wheels to cool them down if the car was recently driven so it looks like I've been an idiot and I have been wetting the already cool rims and I shouldn't of.



The cleaner is very very mild, I wonder how strong is actually is. I'll find out this weekend.

I finally gave up using EO A2Z Cleaner, it worked fine on my chrome, but I wanted some real protection on my wheels, just like the rest of my car!!:cool:



2 weeks ago, I decided to try Z2+Zfx on them! 3 layers later, I couldn't be happier!!:xyxthumbs ;)

First of all, they shine like they never have before!

And secondly, they're way easier to clean now! I just use whatever Z7 wash is left in my bucket after I wash my car, and a twice demoted 100% Cotton wash mitt(yes, the real cotton Viking one!!).:p



Brake dust just can't hold on to 'em anymore!!
