Wheel acid on polished aluminum is fixable?

well usually acid is not safe for any clear coated wheels, even chrome.

Really?

I use acid on clearcoated wheels, chrome wheels, hubcaps and other chrome such as bumpers every day. I've never had a probem. the only problems ive ever seen were on bare polished aluminum.

Acid is actually used to prepare aluminum for polishing in the truck detailing industry. Acid eats the corrosion and staining, then you DA sand then buff and hand polish.

So yes, the effects on a non clearcoated wheel can be reversed, but i do agree not to let it sit for too long. The quicker you hose acid off the better it looks, if you leave it too long it will cause streaking that will need to be polished out.

And just so I don't catch hell like i did the last time i posted about acid- make sure you take proper precausionary measures such as gloves etc. In other words read the label....but don't be so scared of it!

Keep in mind that there are multiple kinds of ACID. HF/BF/Oxalic. Ranging from Megs WB to Danase Assasin to Mothers Wire. Health risks and material risks vary accordingly.

You must bathe in the stuff :lol

Heres what i use and recommend- NAPAONLINE®

Theres a handy link to its MSDS right there under its description.

"HYDROFLUORIC & PHOSPHORIC ACID" are listed as the corrosive chemicals in this product, and there are of course handling instructions and possible side-effects listed as well.

This stuff is $25 a gallon, & you can buy it at your local NAPA....thats a hell of alot more affordable than a steamer if you dont already have one.
