I'm curious, being fairly traditional using a foam applicator (pinnacle typically). I've not tried mf and I find the terry applicators work better for KAIO than wax/sealant.
What do you think?

For wax I stick with foam, sealants get the luxury of mf, and I also find terry slightly damp works best with AIO. IF I polish by hand though, I usually use terry app. I feel it has more of a bite to it.

I agree with Probe- Meguiars foam for wax and MF for sealants. Lately I have been using cheap foam apps. from Big Lots to apply tire dressing...

I use a terry applicator for everything i apply by hand. Yeah i'm old school, i don't have anything MF in my collection.

I use a PC or Cyclo usually for polishing, but I always apply my LSP's by hand with a foam applicator (dampened or dry depending on manufacturer instruction). :)

Hey true, where do you get your terry towels? I cant find none of good quality anymore.
Sorry for the interruption with the thread. Carry on.

I use foam in most cases, unless there was no polish step and i'm using a cleaner wax in which case I use terry.

Meg foam applicator for me

Where can I get 'cheap but good' foam applicators btw?
Meguiar used to carry a 12 pack hi tech app for $5+..they removed it from their webby already..I was gonna ask Dwayne to get a lot for me :help: :bawling:

For hand application it is pretty hard to beat the foam applicators with the handgrip molded in them. Viking is one brand.

This is another that shows the general design.

The small Meg's applicators work fine, but I seem to make a habit of flipping them across the room. That doesn't happen with the grip applicators.

The PC with a finishing pad works good, too. If I have been using the PC to polish, then I might go ahead and apply my LSP with it. If I'm just doing the LSP, it's not worth getting the PC out for the little time and effort it takes to apply it by hand.

I use my fingers.........
but then I do bikes.

When I do an automobile with paste wax I use foam.

Depends on the wax I'm using. When I use P21S I use the foam applicator that came with it. When I'm using Optimum it's spray on so there's no applicator used per se. When I'm using Zymol I use my bare hands to apply the wax.

Have been in a carnuaba mood this winter. Have used the foam apllicator to do all of my applications so far. I even use the foam applicator with Zaino on my wife's car.

Will do the daughter's Focus this week. Will use a MF applicator to aply FK1 #2180 sealant.

Have used the PC to apply liquid products also. Just seems to be a little less personal.... more business like. Have not done any details that involved any money lately. The PC, for me, is faster to apply liquid products. It is certainly better for uniform layered application. Just have not been in a hurry as of late.

Ya, that German applicator is pretty nice. It works well with AIO on the white side, and great for a sealant on the red side.

For a wax i use Megs MF applicator, for sealants i use foam, like the German one, or the one with the gripper knob-whatever is clean.

LC 6.5" finishing pad on the PC @ speed 2 or so. It works quite well. I fold the pad like a taco and then dab the ends in my #16 container, then I put the pad on the PC and go to town, do a panel, wipe off. The two dabs spread to do an entire hood or two doors (sedans anyway) worth of real estate.

Does using a MF to apply layers cause too much friction and remove th layer below?

Andrew

I think all applications with any type of applicator will produce friction. The application process itself requires the moving of the applicator over the paint surface (which equals some friction). How much friction produced is debatable, but I highly doubt that it would be enough to remove a (relatively new) previous layer of LSP. I suppose it's all up to the perspective of the person doing the work, and this is just my view.

i use a simoniz cordless polisher. it applies a nice thin coat and is not strong enough to do any damage what so ever. it is actually useles for anything else
