What's your favorite performance tire?

Nitto Invo's. Great street tire. Hooks up ok too.

Nitto 555R's for the track. Good mix between a drag radial and street tire. For all out traction other than a slick, the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial it the ticket!

Have you tried the direzza sport z1 star spec? might want to give them a look. Lots of good comments about them. if you need that kind of grip :dance

The Star Specs will probably be the next tire on my Evo. Though they weigh a bit more than their contemporaries, the tires seem to offer an almost unbeatable price/performance ratio. The reports from competitive Evo pilots are glowing. If they're almost as good as my Yoko 046s, I'll be happy given the cost.

As for the Yokohama 046s, they don't last long - I get ~8K street miles - they're not great in the wet, they hate the cold, but when the ambient temps hit the 60s, they start to stick like glue with very predictable breakaway characteristics. I like them enough to have another set waiting in the wings. Once those wear-out, I'll most likely go for the Dunlops.

I can't believe I was the only person running Avon's. LOL

I had the M500's on my automatic '03 V6 Accord (not the A/S version) and was very underwhelmed. They are nowhere near a true sport tire and wore out in 30k miles of mostly highway driving. Kind of reminds me of the current popularity of the General UHP's which, from what I hear, don't handle good and wear out fast. See lots of kids spending $1k+ on 19" rims and then putting these on them because they're so cheap.

Currently I have a '04 BMW 330i with OEM 18" Michelin Pilot Sports. When those wear out I'm planning to get the Sumitomo HTR ZIII's which the M3/M5 guys like and they're cheap. Living in LA I don't need to run all season tires which is a big plus.

I really like the Falken ZE-912's I have on my Maxima. Boatloads quieter than the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires I previously had, noticably better grip and they aren't wearing out as quickly. Superb tire in the rain too.

For performance I'd have to go with Falken Azenis rt615's

Since my vw is slow as hell, and I needed as much sidewall stretch as possible, I opted for falken fk452's. I'm very happy with them so far

I have T1-R's on my G, 245/225. On the 335i I'm putting on Pilot Sports, I haven't tried them yet but all reviews are good, except the tread wear seems a little low. 275/245.

Interesting seeing a post from two years ago. I had T1-Rs on the 335i at first. Switched to PS2's after about 8k. I liked the PS2s, hooked up well, not great cold but good once warm. Bad tread wear, but quieter than the T1-Rs and slightly better traction. I tried Goodyear F1 asym's after that, I liked them a lot. Traction was as good as PS2s, better in wet (imo), and they lasted longer, not squishy at all like the T1-Rs can be. I went through two sets of those and recently put on Toyo 888's. I know it's an r-compound but I was tired of rear wheel spin, the traction is fantastic, tread wear sucks but it's the price you pay I guess. I'll probably get another set once this one is done.

I put the Falken FK 452s on last summer. Great tire, great performance, great price. Compare them to PS2s at Tire Rack, you'll be surprised at how close they rate to each other and the huge price differential.

I am a big fan of the Bridgestone RE-960. They are quiet, a tremendous rain tire, reasonably priced, and best of all is the wear. I have a set on my GS400 and currently have 25K miles (very few highway miles) on them and believe I will get another 10K miles before they get below 5/32 tread. They are rated for 45K miles but if I can get 30k from a high performance tire then I feel like I definitely got my money's worth.
