What's your 'Commandments of Auto Detailing'?

RaysWay

I thought it'd be fun to hear some detailing commandments.

Here are mine...

  • Thou shalt not use an automatic brush auto car wash.
  • Thou shalt not witness someone else detailing without mentioning that they "missed a spot".
  • Thou shalt not dress rubber floor mats.
  • Thou shalt not begin correcting paint without performing a test spot.
  • Thou shalt not dry your vehicle with a bath towel.
  • Thou shalt not apply a coating without polishing the paint.
  • Thou shalt not wash a vehicle without Grit Guards.

I'll try and think of more. What are your detailing commandments?

Thou shalt not drop a clay bar and use it again.
Thou shall get a good nights rest before a long day of detailing.
Thou shalt not use a microfiber towel on the wheels and then the paint right after.
Thou shall start from the top of the car and work your way to the bottom when washing a car.

Come on 20 percent is for suckers. 25 percent is for guys who stock up and sit back and wait for the buying opportunity with free freight.

Gotta pick your spots.

If you run out they have you by the short hairs.

Thou Shalt wait for the 20% off anything before purchasing :)

Thou shalt get another MFT when the current one has seen duty on all sides, regardless of how clean it still looks.
Thou shalt use a drying aid.
Thou shalt never use anything more aggressive than a white pad on thy own car, lest ye been careless with thine own car.

Though shalt stop buying QD's and waxes. :rofl

Thou shall not be afraid to turn away a customer with unrealistic expectations or a know it all.

Can't resist a little Autopian Heresy-

Thou shalt not prioritize vehicle cosmetics over more life's important things.

OK, OK, mine are either Accumulator-centric (Thou shalt not wash without a foamgun spewing its output at the point of wash media-to-paint contact), or "well, duh..."-basic (Thou shalt not use long sweeping motions when washing). All boils down to...

Thou shalt not mar the paint or otherwise damage the vehicle. (An Autopian spin on "First, do no harm".)

Well, OK..since we always discuss correction, I'll specifically add:

Thou shalt not over-thin the clearcoat.

Thou shalt not correct paint unless it's gonna stay marring-free.

Thou shalt not do something to a vehicle that matters unless thou knowest what thou art doing.
