What's wrong with this site?

What happened to Tuckermatics thread :hmmm:

Unlike other sites this one has barely a trace of activity by ppl who actually make there living detailing...why is that :inspector:

I agree, the reputation meter is a joke. It reminds me of 2nd grade when the teacher would give you a gold star if you were a good little boy are girl :notme:

Hi 901. Not sure if we have met before but there was a part of the thread where you mentioned my name a few times and the mods brought it down to the mod forum for review so I could take a look see at it and decide what to do.

Why don't you send me a PM with a list of all of your issues with the site and we can talk about it. If you want, send me your phone number if you prefer to chat by phone.

The only site I can really think of that is overwhelemed with pros is Autopia. Quite possibly because people who detail for a living don't have a lot of time to post on forums, so they hit the one up that is "the biggest."

Just a stab.

IMHO

Most of the "other sites" the people that make a living and are posting alot are less of a "help" and more of a mutual adoration society. They are either saying "look at how great I am, or I know more than you so listen to me."
Some of the recent threads on other sites start or have some sort of line like
"Totally hacked - Brought back to Life......" introduction line. (so stoke my ego)

Is that what DC is about? Or is it about being helpfull?

As far as the rep meter. I think it's cool. Yeah sorta like a gold star in 2nd grade, but still sorta cool. And it does give people some sort of idea if the poster has some sort of credibility.

Ronj, I agree 1000% on this, the other sites that I see guy posting there work its about all the cool details they done, paint gauges, pics of the tail pipes before and after, bug smears on the grill..IMO....BIG DEAL.

This site is about helping and about showing off our work but I in no way feel like I know it all and remain humble to sit and read and learn:D

I WAS a member of a site much like this one for several years. It got to the point that if you wasn't in a certain click of people, or used any product other than a site sponsors, you were cut down and flamed to the point it was pointless to even post. I've not once felt like that here. I personally love this site.

I agree Ronkh. It does seem to me that most all who post there details have the Look At Me Complex :swirly:

I do wish I had the oppurtunity to visually inspect these vehicles myself. I guarantee you I could find there flaws :inspector:

I will never post my work. I don't need the biz for one and two I don't have the time. I am on day 16 working 10 - 16 hours each day with 2 of those days having 100/101 tempature :surrender

As far as the rep meter...I will let common sense direct me, not how many green dots someone may have or not have :notme:

From what you've described I'm hoping you don't view that site as much like this one. I'm not going to say that I haven't seen misdirected comments on this forum, that would be a lie. The places I have seen these come up are when people come on to the site and for whatever reason seem to insinuate that they somehow have all the answers we are looking for. That rubs people the wrong way and the end result usually isn't good.

If a person comes on and rationally explains the success they are having with a new product or method and isn't afraid to tell you where they've been and how they arrived where they are things usually go pretty well. I've watched this to be true even if the product/method is popularly accepted.

When someone comes on and makes a statement like, "you guys are living in the past or can't accept the way things are now" things tend to go down hill in a hurry. That's the best reason I can give for someone coming on to a new site and properly introducing themselves verses touting the greatness of a particular product in their first post. The majority of Spammers come to a site and expose the greatness of this or that without ever saying who they are. Anyone knows that when you see a first post that lists an unprecedented new product by name it's probably something of which to be suspicious.

There are a lot of very good, very informed detailers on this site. I'm talking about members whose work would stack up with the best detailers the world has to offer. New members need to take the time to get to know them. That said we as members could sometimes be a little less quick to pull the trigger.

Hey gearhead if you want to revive this site Dave and I could discuss gun issues again that will liven it up Guaranteed. :D

I could have prob worded that better. I didn't mean that this site is in any way like the one I was talking about. What I meant by "like this one" was that it is a detailing forum like this one. I hope there was no confusion.

I know exactly what's wrong with this site! It went to Hell in a handbasket the day Beavis left! :D

Seriously, I see some positive signs for DC's future:

- the addition of some sponsor reps is welcome and quite impressive;
- the technical bugs seem to have been worked out;
- the tone is one of the friendliest of the sites I'm familiar with;
- censorship of anything detailing related is non-existent.

If you've noticed some lower post counts than normal, please consider:

- some very active members seem to have found a home over at TID; (not a negative or positive, IMO, simply a fact. overall, I think this is a plus for growth in the car care products industry)
- we are coming out of an especially nasty winter, even in FL;
- what effect did Troy closing the retail operation have on the forum?

Bottom line, I hope that DC is a profitable endeavor for Dwayne. I, for one, like it here. ;)

I only think it is improving, but that's my opinion for what its worth...
I normally don't get on as much as I used to due to the business, but when I do, there are always new posts/threads to read and respond too. I don't like logging on and finding over 1000 new posts, as I just close the window. It's like Goldie Locks and the three bears..... "DC is juuuust right.."

OK, that was pretty lame, but you get the picture.;)

This site is pretty busy. I pop in a few times a week and always have two to five PAGES of new posts to sift through before checking on topics I've previously posted in.
