Whats with the different types of Dawn dish soap?

The reason I ask is because today I washed a pad in the clear colored dawn dish soap, and it didn't seem to want to clean the pad at all. I usually use the green apple dawn soap, lol. I just thought they were the same.



Also I was using HD UNO this time and I usually use Menzerna, but I would have thought the UNO would come off easier than the Menzerna since UNO is water based.



Are the different colors of dawn different? Or do they just smell different?
 
I don't know about the other Dawn soaps, except the original blue dawn that cleans water fowl during an oil spill. But Dawn Power Dissolver is my go to soap to clean pads.

I had a real problem finding that stuff in a store. No target had it. I dont go to walmart so i dont know about that. Finally found it at a hyvee. It helps to know its in a spray bottle instead of regular soap.

I've always used either liquid Tide or even just APC to clean pads and/or towels. As far as Dawn, I stick to the original stuff.

Walmart has Power Dissolver, but it's hard to find. I found it in the dish wash soap isle, but not with the regular Dawn. It was at the end of the isle with other "spray degreasers." Also found it at ACE hardware stores, but twice as much as Walmart.
 
Quick question- I saturate my pads in a bowl of water along with some dawn for a few hours, and than rinse them out after- good or bad way to do it this way?

Some people claim that the gel-ish soaps like Dawn will leave soap residue on your pads, however I feel that's sort of overthinking the process (many manufacturers sell mild APCs labeled as microfiber or pad cleaner for this reason). I use Dawn in an old ice cream pail with some luke warm water and let my pads soak. As long as you give them a good rinse, you shouldn't have any problem with "residue" sitting on the pad. The thought behind this being harmful to your pads is that it may cause the glue holding the velcro backing to separate or break down faster. With that being said, I've accidentally left foam pads in water with Dawn overnight multiple times (sometimes over a weekend...don't ask) with the Uber/Buff n Shine brand pads and haven't even remotely seen the pad start to separate. It's a good idea when letting your pads air dry to leave them face down (velcro side up) so the water doesn't accumulate and sit in the glue.
 
Usually an hour or 2 to soak, then I'll lightly agitate the pad face with a pad brush (I use the kind of brushes that usually come with gun cleaning kits, pretty much a toothbrush with more bristles) until it's all clean. Then I wring them out and run under warm water until they're not soapy anymore.
