What's the worst that happens washing in sunlight?

Is it alright to use QD after a wash in the sun?

Thanks everyone. I wish I would have found this site months ago. It would've saved me some cash.:xyxthumbs

hey marty, you mentioned rain on the pain in sunlight being bad....ask yourself a question...is the sun really that bright and hot when it rains on your car? ;)

You would be surprised. In the low desert areas of SoCal around Palm Springs (and other areas) it can be 95+, with bright sunlight, and in a total downpour from a high-altitude thunderstorm that's 2-5 miles away with the wind blowing the rain.

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

Only problem with softened water is the salt content, it will get into seams etc and if not eliminated it will cause rust (worst thing to do, let it dry and wait until water is added)

~Hope this helps~

will washing in direct sunlight cause you to lose your wax protection... kind of like when the wax gets hot can you wash it completely off because it is soft??

Getting back to the washing question, Dawn in the hot sun has got to be one of the most horrible things to get to rinse clean. It doesn't rinse easily even on a good day. But bake it in the sun and let it dry on the surface...good luck at getting the streaks and splotches off even with a buffer and polishing compound.

MartyGrant,

Rain water and tap water are not the same thing. If you were to rinse your car with tap water and let it dry in the sun you would have a major water spot problem. Not so with rain water. Many times it has rained on my car and the weather has cleared shortly after and the sun has come out while the car is covered in rain water. It dryed spot free

See my post at the top of page 2. Rain water is not pure.

In addition, ALL rainwater is acidic. The raindrops mix with carbon dioxide and become carbonic acid (acid rain). As the raindrops decrease in size (as the sun evaporates them), the concentration of the carbonic acid increases.

It depends on the QD. Some, like Quikshine and S&G are safe in the sun. With other QDs, they might streak really fast if used in the sun.

welcome aboard

It frequently gets sunny after a rainstorm. It happens all the time after cold-front-induced T-storms. The storms go over, drop rain on the cars, and pass. Then the cold front passes, the clouds move out, and the sun shines on the rain-covered vehicles...and so the carbonic acid raindrops increase in concentration, and the condensation nuclei cause spots.
