what's the least and most aggressive car wash/shampoos you have used?

Thanks for the offer, but I'm turning down everybody's Optimum Shampoo sample offers for the time being. It's not that I don't appreciate each and every one of them, but I don't want to try the Optimum until I get down to my last gallon or two of Griot's.

Hey, no problem! If you already have a few gallon's of other shampoo to finish first, I totally understand. I guess if you don't use them now before trying something else, they might end up collecting dust on the shelf!

The least aggressive I've used were TOL Bubble Bath, P21S, and Griot's.

Most aggressive is NXT Car Wash (but one of my favorite OTC's.)

I do have some Optimum on order that I will be trying shortly.

Least aggressive: DP extreme foam

Most aggressive: High-Temp Prep Wash

Just right: CG's CW&G

If High Temp Prep Wash is stronger than CW&G, that must be some serious stuff. So far I just use CW&C when I am prepping the paint for detailing.

+1...I have some CW&C on order and was planning on using it for prep washes. I've been using DP Xtreme Foam in the foam gun for routine washes. Does Optimum perform similarly in the foam gun?

CW&G can be mild if you use it sparingly. Hi-Temp Prep wash can not. Prep wash makes CW&G seem like straight water in my experience. I use prep wash after compounding or for cars with a lot of LSP on them before I start compounding.

FWIW, CW&G can be quite strong too, it's a great product, just use more as needed.

It is *serious* stuff. It's a "prep wash" that body shops use to completely strip the paint of *everything* before it goes to the paint both. IMO, it's one step down from a full paint decontamination kit, and makes CW&G look like lemonade.

Yup, if you just need to remove a prior lsp, CW&G mixed at a higher dilution is all you need. But if you need to remove dried on wax residue, tar, dead bugs, pretty much all the nasty stuff, "Prep wash" will do it. You know how a lot of the time you'll get a car to detail, and there's wax residue in all the nooks and crannies, and you usually have to get out a tooth brush to get it off, and even then, it's a complete PITA, especially around letters and badges? Hi-temp Prep Wash will melt that stuff away, and you don't even have to agitate it with a tooth brush. It is some *serious* juju.

I do not understand you guys. NXT=aggressive? I don't beleive so, I think it is a great car wash and very effective. I don't beleive it strips wax either, so what is the perceived problem you guys have with this product?

Probbaly the most agressive is meguiars deep crystal car soap and the least I know of is meguiars soft wash gel. Only I can't find it anymore but on the net. Oh well.

Who do you by Hi Temp Prep Wash from? Or do you order it directly from Hi Temp?

Silicone Remover

It's cheap, too.

I use it the same way I used to use TAW. Spray the entire car down with it, let it dwell, then agitate the parts that need it. Even on the thickest dried on wax, no more than five seconds with an ultra soft tooth brush is needed for complete removal. Most visible dried on wax won't even require any agitation. Mix it 1:1 for this use.

So you don't use it as a typical wash per say (pour several ounces in a wash bucket and wash the car) instead you use it almost as an APC?

NXT is pretty agresive, it also cleans well. I use it as a foam presoak w/ cannon + PW. It usually helps break down bug-jerky and break dust.

You *can* use it as a regular wash, but for really nasty stuff it's best used as a pre-spray. As a soap bucket type wash, it's still very strong.... strongest out there. A bucket full of prep wash and an extremely gentle BHB will strip off LSP in a hurry.

Wash&Gloss has glossing agents to gloss up the finish after washing and clear does not have any glossing agents and is just a car soap.

The most aggressive I have tried is CG 'No More Bugs & Tar Heavy Duty Shampoo'. It will strip most wax.

The least Aggressive I have tried is probably the cheap Zym0l stuff.

I think I have all of the CG shampoos and I love them. (Al, PM me if you want some samples.)

I'd also like to try the Meguiar's Detailer line of shampoos but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I have a few gallons of CG shampoos so if anyone wants to trade some samples let me know.

does the bug and tar wash foam like a normal car wash?
