What's the general consensus of carnauba wax on this board?

I have KLASSE already and I think it is great if one would choose to go the sealant route. My only concern is am I compromising the true shine of carnauba by having a base of KLASSE versus if I just used carnauba with nothing under it? I was thinking of trying to go with KLASSE topped with Souveran so I can get the best of both worlds, durability and a warm, deep shine.

That is a Klasse with PPG carnuba topper picture. The Klasse/Carnuba route is a really great way to go. The carnuba doesn't compromise the Klasse at all. I highly recommend it.

edit: This is also about 2 months after the last PPG application.

Im not out there every weekend I get home early on fridays and wash my car when its warm or go to a hand wash near my house (ouch 17 bucks) then late late on friday night I sneak down to my garage (1-2am) and wax my car!ITS THEROPY FOR ME

Steve (and all others),

Whats the skinny on carnuba over Klasse as far as more SG goes? Once you top it with carnuba, are the SG days over until you strip the whole thing off? I would think after about a month you could AIO it and then start over, what do you guys think?

P.S.

Yes, I did search first....... no joy :xyxthumbs

Klasse won't bond to carnuba. Once you start putting a topper on Klasse then your SG layering days are over unless you want to strip the whole thing. Stop the SG at about 5 layers and you won't ever have to wonder if the car could have looked a little better with one more coat. 5 is pretty much the end of the road as far as Klasse goes. No point in going into over kill on it. (Like I did with my million coats)

I wouldn't strip it after a month. Give it 4 or 5 months before you start over. Klasse is meant for durability. Stripping it off so early kind of cheats the purpose for having it IMO.

hmmm, Tony, that statement saying stripping off Klasse early cheats the purpose of having it, has the same effect of saying Zaino is pointless if you're not going to apply it often. :p

I was just thinking that if you want to go through the effort of detailing your car like that every month then you might as well use just a carnuba or something like that. The whole appeal of Klasse to me is that I don't have to apply it every month. Maybe apply a coat of carnuba once a month but leave the Klasse there if you like it.

Yosteve,

No, stripping off something after one month that would normally last 6 months is couterproductive, I agree...but layering the same product again and again as the weeks and months go by isn't pointless at all. There's a big difference.

Intermezzo - I think YoSteve meant "if you strip everything and layer it all back on from scratch in a month, that is counter productive". I don't think he meant "layer one more coat every week".

With the way the shine improves after each extra lyer of Klasse you can bet I'm going to layer about 8 coats of Klasse on my car then go to the Meguiars glaze and Blitz.

Joed, he was making reference to an old debate we had........subject being whether or not Zaino is pointless because most Zaino users like to layer lots of coats.

My fault, I thought you were talking about something else.

It seems from all of these Zaino reviews that layering Zaino is like flushing the bowl after you use it ........... you just gotta do it.

yes you can strip off and reapply Klasse every month and it'll probably look just as great if not better, but as Tony said it may not be beneficial since Klasse lasts longer than that

just like I don't see why one would go buy the whole Z system only to not layer it regularly.

sure you can do both but it defeats the purpose

maybe we're still not getting what I'm saying, but it's the same thing I've been saying since day one. It's okay though.

Thats what I was thinking of doing. I just put my 3rd coat of S/G on today. One or two more and I was going to switch to a carnuba, put the Klasse on the shelf, and after carnuba-ing for the spring/summmer Go back to Klasse for the winter. One more question.......After the stretch of carnuba waxing is a dawn wash really needed? Thats some harsh stuff, I dont think I want to wash with it. The AIO should be all I need right??

It's way too early to tell, but after having Blitz on my wife's black bimmer for 4 days I haven't noticed any extra-amount of static or dust than before. But again, it's way too early to make that kind of assessment.

As an update, it's been a week since I applied Blitz to the car and when I took the car out into the sun to assess the 'kind' of wash it would require, I noticed that the car was COVERED with dust! Back when the car was being protected with Zaino, a week of daily driving would pass (with no QD sessions) and the car would still look very shiny with very little dust. It was almost like a waste to wash the car back then because the car stayed so clean! With Blitz, the car looks like it hasn't been washed for a month!

A couple of questions come up upon noticing this large increase in dust attraction:

1) Is this a characteristic of ALL carnauba waxes or just Blitz? My guess is that it's just characteristic of Blitz, because the week before I was using P21S and Meguiar's #26 and didn't notice this much dust. I'll test this out in a few weeks by adding a coat of P21S and then taking note of the dust content (very subjective, I know).

2) Is this dust attraction by Blitz something that happens primarily in the early stages? (which is something I noticed with Zaino) Only time will tell. I guess the only way to know would be to wash the car and make an assessment next weekend (again, very subjective).

I'll be posting my findings if anyone is interested....

Tony

I have been using blitz for a month, and do not have then same problem with dust. I would think that dust problems vary by region, but I find that with blitz my car stays cleaner then with Meguiars #26 or gold class wax. Haven't used Zaino or Klasse so I can't compare.
