Whats the difference between pads? They all feel alike except the color

Hi,
I have Lake Country pads, the ones with the pocket in the center. I was wondering about what makes the pads different other than the color? I know that white is for polishing, orange is tougher and yellow cuts the most. But, the Lake Country orange pads feel much firmer than the yellow. What makes the yellow cut, compared to the white. Other than color they all feel the same to me.
Thanks for the help on this one,

Two additional differences that I am aware of (there are probably more): one, the size of the "bubbles" in the foam, generally a finer textured foam is less cutting and two, the material used in the foam; pre polymer materials used in some foam pads generate more heat and help the cutting process.

:)

Thanks Mike,
Does the firmness of the foam have anything to do with it? I notice that the orange pad, which is less agressive is firmer than the yellow pad which is more aggresive.
Thanks

Waxforfun: I am no foam pad expert, but listening to the guys from LC answer questions regarding foam pads, I understand that it is the balance of the firmness, foam density and material used in the foam which determines the cutting ability of a pad. Firmer pads with large "bubbles" (someone please help me with the correct word!) made with pre-polymers will cut more aggressively. Softer, finer foams will cut less.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the info. I am a little confused because I also thought that the firmer pad would cut more. However, I have Lake Country pads and the yellow is softer than the orange. But the yellow is supposed to be more aggresive. Oh please help!

I'm not an engineer but I think the info you're looking for somehow relates to the "cells" (porosity) of the foam and the number of cells per inch (density).

More cells and/or larger cells will make the foam seem more pliable whereas smaller and/or fewer cells per inch will make the foam seemer firmer.

Someone care to comment?
