The guy said it would take about 3 hrs. Is that an enough time to do a quality job?

im in jersey. Thats what alot of these big Car Wash/Detail places charge. I use to work at one about 10 years ago and thats what they would charge. Except they didnt clay your car.

I just did a 3 hour job on my boss's envoy.

just a wash and poorboys polishw/carnuba WAX.

for $50

I was so busy trying to do it right i didnt get to his interior or door jambs, he did them himself lol

then he started to rush me.

I kept complaining i want to do this right....but he really just wanted wax thrown on it.

On the bright side, if he's just glazing/filling- you won't be losing any cc.

It all depends on what makes you happy, covering up or correcting?

It sounds like your boss wanted a cleaned up interior and the paint cleaned and some wax put on the paint fast. You were trying to do much more than that.

$50? That would be insulting to me

Oh no he said he will be using a compound which will cut into the clear which will remove just about all the scratches and light hazing I have

...and you will likely have buffer trails a few weeks later when the fillers wear off.

Having managed this type of a of shop back in the day I'd day run the other way! They make money by turning cars fast, and not by spending time on them making them look the way they should. To the uneducated, their cars still look better and these are the type of clients they will cater too.

You usually get what you pay for with detailing.

:werd:, before i was smart enough to join autopia i had my car "detailed" by a "detailer". Little did i know all they did was fill my scratches with glaze and leave horrible buffer trails. I was pissed to say the least.

Which is the main reason why i got into :buffing: and detailing. I don't deceive people by my work!!!

It's been over 10 years now since I worked at one but I think they actually had us applying Megs #26 with a rotary and wool finishing pad for the majority of the cars we did. We did have some 3M compound too but it was rarely used. We also had one of those buff n' scratch machines to apply paint sealants with. We actually had an old guy come in for a paint sealant once with a red Ford truck that was single stage and all faded. I called my boss on the intercom we all wore and told him it needed to be buffed. He said just buff the hood. This looked ridiculous as the sides were faded too and when I stared buffing the sides he gets on the intercom and starts yelling at me for doing it so I turned it off and kept on working. Keep in mind my boss was looking out from his office and we are working in front of the customers while they wait. The vehicle owner apparently figured out what was going on and he came over when the truck was done and handed me $40 for doing what should have been done in the first place.

Most high volume shops are simply all about money.

ONR wash, clay paint and glass, Optimum Spray Wax, dress tires and wipe door jambs, = $100. Thats what I charge for the average vehicle.

I'm thinking M105 on a wool pad & rotary with a spray wax after?

That would remove all the scratches very quickly, but leave swirls behind from the compounding, and you could have it done in three hours.

Mystery solved!
