For Subs: JL Audio, Crossfire, Diamond Audio, Elemental Design and a few others.

For Speakers: JL Audio, Diamond Audio, MB Quart, Polk Audio, Focal and a few others

What you need to do is take some of the music you listen too and check them out in person.

sound quality is totally dependent on install. Listening to a set of speakers in a building such as Best Buy will not sound the same way as compared to listening to the same speakers installed in a car. Your best bet is to find someone with these speakers installed and listen to them.

my recommendations:

speakers: DLS, CDT, Focal, MBQuart, Elemental Designs, Adire Audio, RE

Subs: RE, Adire audio, Ascendant Audio, JL Audio, Elemental Design.

I've got a lonely 8" Elemental sub. Very nice and

tight bass. :xyxthumbs

CDT and Focal make super natural sounding

speakers. But they also cost a lot more, and I couldn't

find a set that would fit in the stock locations w/o

modification. So I went with JLs'. Not nearly as good

as Focal or CDT, but way superior to Pioneer,

Kenwood, or even Alpine.

My favorite phrase is "huh? Bang for the buck I go with Pioneer. I also love Audiocontrol stuff. Of course I have calmed down a lot...

Very individual choice... sound systems are something that can get you carried away...:bounce

I used to be really into that type of stuff (Before I had kids and my money dried up!) and I went to as many audio stores and listened to all the speakers they had on display. IMO, those three you picked are going to be o.k., but nothing spectacular. I heard M.B. Quart is really good, but somewhat pricey. My favorites are Infinity Kappas and Boston Acoustics. Both of those sounded the cleanest and clearest to me.

Termigator and mochamanz-----

would you guys say that the Alpine 2way Type R components are better than the Rockford 2-way components???

I haven't had much experience with the two you mentioned. From my experience in the past, companies that specialized in speakers, e.g. Infinity & Boston Acoustics, tend to have better speakers than the ones that do produce many othe products. I know Alpine has some great decks & amps and Rockford Fosgate is famous for their line of amps. If you can, you really should try and listen to them at the local stores. Speakers are a lot like waxes. What I like may not be what you like.:)

Forced to choose between the two, I'd say decide what you want in your music:

High Quality sound / reasonable output (volume) : Alpine

Harsh-sound / high output (volume) : Rockford

Thanx D3mon,

your reply was the type of response i was looking forward to.

other people are telling me to get other brands9 Which are better) however, they are understanding that i am forced between just Alpine and Rockford.

BTW, what do you mean by "Harsh Sound"?

Made by MB Quarts. Good stuff.

Really? I always thought they were independant

companies. Are you saying that MB has always

manufactured JL, or there was some merger?

I am a car stereo installer for 16 years, and I can tell you that JL does NOT make MBQuart, or vice versa.

I believe you are talking about MB joining forces with Rockford. In 2001, MB joined forces with Rockford, and Lightning Audio.

JL is a totally seperate company, and as far as subwoofers is concerned, they make the best. MB does make the best mids and coax's though.

I personally have 3 JL 15"s, and my back and front stages are Infinity Reference series, and have won many competitions with that setup.

Back when I was in IASCA competition, the theory went as follows:

American-made (western culture - bass and rock'n'roll) products were usually associated with the SPL (Sound Pressure Level) / DB-Drag contestants - i.e. where sound quality and reproduction was not the ultimate goal but simply how much output could be obtained.

Japanese / Chinese (eastern culture - classic and more traditional music) products tended to be favoured by the SQ (Sound Quality) competitors as the equipment was better suited to music of a generally higher frequency range.

In my experience of listenting to many brands of speakers and equipment, the two opposing nature's never met up in one product. Equipment designed for power lacked musical control and visa versa.

Harsh sound will generally cause listener fatigue over an extended period of time, as the frequency reponse isn't balanced, but varies, often quite wildly.

In other words, blast out your windows with Rockford, but really enjoy your music with Alpine.

While everybody here has good points, I'm going to suggest that you go back to the store with music you listen to and really listen to the speakers. Don't just stand equidistant from each speaker, vary your proximity to the speakers just like you would if you were sitting in your car. See which sounds best to you. People can spout out brand names left and right, but if you don't like the way the speaker sounds, or if you can't afford the speakers they are recommending, then what good does it do you? Every speaker is going to sound different in every car/install. If you are going to install these speakers yourself, I highly recommend you do a little research. Don't forget sound damping material (Dynamatt is a popular albeit pricey brand) just a one square foot piece of material on your door around your speaker will make a noticeable difference in sound quality.

Seriously, the only person you are trying to impress is yourself. Go to the store, listen to the speakers and find what you like - after that order them from an autorized online retailer and save yourself 20%. :)

I thought I said the same thing.

How are the Infinity 2-way and 3-way speakers? I was actually thinking of running Infinity components (6.5") up front and 3-ways in the rear (6x9" with custom fabrication since 6.5" are the largest that can fit stock). I drive a 2000 Integra. What would be a good amp for that setup with a Pioneer deh-p7400mp? Thanks.

Well, I don't really like any of them for speakers. Pioneer isn't neutral enough, Alpine just doesn't make very good speakers(quality), and RF used to be decent but now they stink.

If you want my personal opinion, I have and love my Infinity Kappa components. Awesome sound, especially the mid and highs. They have a very natural, open, airy quality about them.

Also, the build quality is top shelf and they offer a three year warranty!

Hope this helps!:wavey

Personally, I wouldn't be satisfied with the speakers on your list. The best speakers I've heard lately were 6.5" 2-way components from Alumapro. A bit more clarity than Focal's $370 equivalents and it had punchier and more dynamic bass that went just as low. Sometimes I'd hear just a bit of metallic sound (they are aluminum after all) but it served the music well. The dealer I heard it from claimed it to be his secret SQ choice (he also admires old school Soundstream amps, ADS speakers, Nak, Eclipse HUs and old school RFosgate amps). Good luck finding it though.
