whats a good bug and tar remover?

im detailing my car i see some black tar bugs on the paint and i try to claybar it off since it said removes tar&bugs on the box.. it usually just makes the black spot smooth and doesnt take it all off.



would it be easier just using B&T remover instead of claybaring it? also will a B&T cleaner take off any wax i have on the car already? :confused:





so what is a good brand?

Yes a B&T cleaner will work better/faster than clay.

Will it remove your wax? Depends on the cleaner. Einzett's bug and tar remover says that it will not remove wax. I used it on my rocker panels the other day to remove the tar that has been there for months, and it came off with very little effort. A little rubbing is all it takes. I did let the product sit on the paint for 5-10 seconds before rubbing.

So far I'm pretty satisfied with it.

i like einzetts pp and mp products.. i guess ill order there b&t..



any order suggestions?
 
I have found that Mineral Spirits cleans up Tar in a snap. Its a lot milder than the Bug and Tar Removers on the market. I would rewax the spot after clean up.



Bugs I use Glass Cleaner.

I would not recommend using mineral spirits or any other solvent type product. It is always much safer to use products that are made for the specific purpose intended.
 
Tried Tarminator to take out some tree sap stains in my beater's white paint today and didn't work very well. Saw Turtle wax b&t at local Autozone so might try that. Or might a paint cleaner like Meguiar's Deep Crystal work better? Or should I just attack it with the PC, orange pad and SSR2?

Frank- You may be confusing Mineral Spirits with some different knid of Solvent. Mineral Spirits and Petroleum Distillates are the same thing.



If you read the back of most detailing products they contain Petroleum Distillates. All Waxes have it and it is the vehical used that dries off when wax sets up.



Mineral Spirits removes tar in a snap. Follow it up with a quick wax and your done.
 
Yesterday, I decided to clean my wheel wells which I had been neglecting for a while. There were some really tough tar specs that had hardened like rocks. Tried the two tar removers I had on my shelf (one from turtle wax and one called Lifter, which is citrus based). Neither did much of anything, even after spraying and letting it soak for several minutes. Went to the mineral spirits and it cleaned everything right off. It was amazing how much better it worked. I can't attest to it's safety on paint, but I washed it off and rewaxed, and there doesn't seem to be any adverse effects.
