What's a cool, comfortable '06 car for a single heart broken guy? :)

Well, now that you bring AMG into the picture, I am with you, although I would guess AMG prices it self out of this purchase.

M3, I still go coupe if I am single AND mid-lifeing it. However, Don looks pretty your to be mid-life. If he is mid-life, I am way over the hill and I never got the 911!

I still say 2 doors. If not a 350Z, and the new Skyline is out, what's left? SC400? I don't know what would be Japanese and big enough. I say if a Vette doesn't work, I say M3, S4, AMG, or still my favorite, PORSCH-AH...... Yep.

I say, "Go German!" And for Goodness Sake, don't buy an automatic!

For some reason I really enjoy the interiors of the BMW 7series. I don't know what I need anymore. Who's got the lotto #'s so I can get one of each...2001 AMG?

For crisis and fun you have to go sporty…comfotable is for later in life. Maximize the fun/reach factor and get a used car. E36 M3 can definitely be had for less than $25k. Porsche Boxster S, C5 Vette, Mid 90’s Porsche 911 can all be had for $30 or less What about a 89 Porsche 911 Turbo (classic wide body body style) or even a 91-92 964 based Turbo for under $30k? All the above mentioned cars can get you in trouble and are an absolute blast to drive. If you buy right you will have money left over for a driving school that will make you appreciate the cars even more.

Easy. Crown Victoria LX Sport.

Big, confortable, reliable, rwd, V8 power, American made. I have one, damn good cars! Big *** trunk too, you can put four sets of golf clubs inside or a weeks luggage.

The Marauder and Crown Vic, while nice, are NOT a mid life crisis car for a 27 yo! That is a beautiful M3 in your link, I love the M3's. But for $30k you will have a VERY, VERY hard time finding a nice, low mileage E46 M3. Let alone a Certified car! I bought my 02 M3 vert last year with 31k miles, certified and it was more than $10k over your intended budget. If you can find a nice one, grab it they are sweet cars and you will forget about your crisis quickly. Heck my vert ran 13.8's at the drag strip, stock! A used S4 would be a gret choice too, or an S4 avant if you need lots of cargo room.

But I have to wonder why you would be having a crisis or be heart broken if you hang out with those, ummmmmm, rather attracitve women? You seem like a lucky guy to me!

If 27 is mid life crisis time then you ain't been living! Anybody under 30 is just a kid. Personally I was still a kid at 40 but I was slow to mature. Getting married for the first time at 41 really cramped the kid in me.

Out of those makes, I would have to go with a used Honda S2000. Reliable, fun, good resale, easy to clean.

Gosh after reading this months C/D with the Accord sedan V6 6 speed I can say that Nissan can eat their SE-R Altima--good chassis dynamics are more important than sticky rubber. :)

I'd second that vote for the Accord!:bigups

Also, the new Jetta GLI is a great car(it actually got first in that comparo;)). Cool, comfortable, and darn sporty, and for a pretty reasonable price; I think around $26k can get you one.

Tough decision...I feel for ya, man. I'll do my best to come up with some advice, but I think we need to see more pics of your friends in order to make the most informed recommendations. ;)

Yes more pics of your friends! Another thought (I still say S4 or M3 if you can find one in your price range), but if you want new what about an Audi A3? You can get one loaded with open sky, leather, sport package, leather, etc for around $28k. I have driven one and it was a fun car to drive, nice materials used and its was quiker than I expected (Im sure itll beat a BMW 325i pretty easily).

Don't buy a cop car. (my dad has one of those LX Sport, it's nice but he's retired not 27!)

I was gonna post something about how intense a properly setup copcar can be but, uhm, OK, I'm retired too and I'm sure not 27 (though I had my first one around that age) and I have maybe-weird taste in cars anyhow :o :D

But what strikes me about most of the suggestions here is that they aren't *scary-fast*. IMO a real midlife crisis car oughta be a "doctor killer", e.g., a souped up Porsche turbo carrera, something like that. Screw-up-and-you're-toast-intense. Playing with stuff like that can remind you you're glad to be alive (assuming you live to tell).

But then I get back to my original idea that the best way to handle a midlife crisis isn't a car anyhow...

Yes, but for a guy with a $30k limit and wanting a new car there is *NOTHING* in the scary-fast category. He would need to spend at least double that amount to get into a car like that. It would be nice for most of us to be able to afford a souped up twin turbo Porsche, but theres only a small percentage who can afford a car in the $100-200k price range. Please dont take any of this as a flame

No no, didn't take it as a flame at all...I totally blew off the "new car" part of it :o

A guy could get into a lot of trouble with a Porsche 928 (voice of experience) and you can get those cheap (not that maintaining them is inexpensive...). 911s are cheap if you buy the earlier ones. I sorta figured the earlier turbos might've gotten cheap like those have and I wasn't thinking new cars. Buying new/certified changes things pretty dramatically price-wise!

Heh heh, if $100-200k cars were "affordable" I'd be trading the S8 myself ;)

Have you seen the new S8? W_O_W!!!! Saw one at NAIAS and it was gorgeous.

I might be looking into one of those...I'm gonna at least wait until they have the ceramic brake option though. I keep thinking that for the little bit I drive my current S8 it would be a *lot* of money to shell out, and I can't stand the new interior ergonomics compared to my car's. Had I not hit the deer I'd never trade it, wouldn't consider it for a second no matter what the "improvements".
