What would you pay for a used tub of wax?

I know its a bizzare question, but for those of use who can't justify spending more than $40 or so on a paste wax, what would you pay for something thats been opened?

If someone had a tub of souveran for instance and claims to have only used one application, what would you offer them for the tube? How does one even go about figuring out a percentage to depreciate wax?

I got curious looking at the classifieds when a reasonable offer of mine (non-low ball) wasn't replied to and the very popular wax remains available for sale over a week later at asking price.

My real life detailing buddies think I'm out of my mind for even considering used/open products.

For me I would offer 40% - 70% of the new/original value. This range depends on how much wax remains and when it was originally purchased (age).

I have never done this...thats just what I would expect.

Its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Trades and sales are often negotiated.

I've bought a few used tubs of wax. For me 50% to 60% seems like a fair price for an almost new tub. A lot depends on the seller too, if it seems like someone that is honest about the age and condition of the wax. With something like souvern you have to remember every so often it's on sale for about half price too.

It really depends on the wax. A tub of Souveran might hold its value a lot longer than say a tub of Nattys Blue.

Recently, I sold my Meguiars #16 for $45.

Why so much? Isn't it still readily available? I just did a quick google search and came up with this: eShine Canada: RARE! Meguiar's #16 Professional Paste Wax within the first 5 links...
I guess some people don't want to mess with ordering it from Canada or they got caught up in an eBay auction.

Its no longer sold in the US due to VOC compliance. You can still find it in Canada and the UK.
Gopher's point is you can still buy it from eShine in Canada (he'll ship to the US) and you'll pay less than $45 incl shipping.

Back to the original question. Yeah, I'd buy wax that was only used once or twice if I was saving some $$$ on it. A lot of people buy a product (in this case a wax) that doesn't meet their expectations. By selling it they recoup some of their money and the buyer (hopefully) saves a few bucks.

As for what it's worth that depends (as others have mentioned) on several factors such as the current popularity, the amount of product left, and what the seller thinks it will be worth. If you made an offer that was not responded to then remember the longer it's for sale the price often becomes more negotiable.

I know this. Just trying to shed light upon his question. Also eShine just got it back in stock as it's often NOT in stock. Thus if at the time you want it you may have to pay a premium for it.

In my experiences eShine doesn't always have the stuff in stock. As well, I think some people would be willing to pay the extra money knowing they will get it somewhere from within the United States. When people see it will be shipping from Canada they often will get worried.

Also, I do not sell the products because I don't like them, in this case it turns out that I have to many tins of Meguiars #16, and I didn't realize that one tin of this stuff seems to last FOREVER. So I will be helping someone else out who wants to try it out.

a good friend and member of this board had 6 cans of souvi paste at one point in time. he sold me one that was about 90% full for 30 dollars. i hopped on that ASAP. then again i trust him

There are a handfull of guys on this board I have purchased/traded used stuff from. Everything has always arrived in good condition, and "non contaminated" (no grit in the paste, etc...). for me, it is a good way to try some products out, and if I don't like them, most of the time I re trade them. I prefer to trade products, than to buy/sell.

As a matter of fact, if there is a product I am looking to try, occasionally I will just PM one of the guys I have had good experiences with in the past to see if they have any of the product, and are willing to trade a sample of it. I also get similar requests from time to time, and am happy to do so most of the time.

To the point of this thread, if I could get a paste wax that had only been used once or twice (90% full), and save 25% or more off what it would cost me to buy it new, I'd be pretty happy.
