What would you charge?

In Exile
I have to go look at a customers' Ford Windstar tonight to give them a quote on an interior only cleaning including carpet and upholstery shampoo.

They describe it as "very dirty", so what would you charge, worst case scenario?

(I'm thinking of tacking on an extra $30 so I can rent a real extractor. I think a minivan may be a little much for the Little Green Machine.)

Thanks in advance.

Be careful where you rent an extractor from, some of those things have even less lift than the Little Green Machine.

I would probably charge $75 for the interior only, and thats if its a decently dirty thing. But if we are talking about food, and gum, and various crap that makes you sick to your stomach jsut looking at it, I would say closer to $125.

Oh and make sure you atleast wash the exterior and go over it with a QD spray afterwards. Its a nice touch.

For a dirty minivan I would not hesitate take ask for $75+USD. Ask for more if you need to rent equipment and ask for specs or the manufactor and model when calling for rental prices.

Do not be afraid to ask for the job is worth and for what it will take for you to make money.

hey biff

here in calgary my van interiors start at 149.95 and if it was really dirty i would charge 175.00.

Well, it is pretty dirty:

Light gray carpet (my favorite!) Most of the floor was covered with gray mats, and they are destroyed. I promised them that I would try to pressure wash the mats but couldn't guarantee they'd come clean. They will probably replace them. The seats are dirty with a fair number of stains but aren't saturated with dirt and dust. The rest of the surfaces are dusty but no big deal.

I quoted $150 CDN, and I'm giving myself 3 to 4 hours. (I expect to be vaccuming for an hour to an hour and a half).

I'll try to get pics of before and after.

I did a kiddie mini van inside only and I got 100 US. I told them its just plan a lot of work and time. I remmoved all the seats except the front ones made the job a whole faster

Good idea, I think I'll try to remove the seats too.

How long did it take you? (I'll be fighting darkness after about 3 hours)

Did a Kiddivan

Just finished a kiddi-van as well. Took me 3.5 hours to complete the inside and I agree compeltely on removing the seats for a couple of reasons.

1) You can clean the seat easier when it is out, less hunching over.

2) The inside is easier as you are not working around seats and can get the areas where the seat mounting structures would prohibit cleaning.

In the end, taking the seats out made it a lot easier and probably save me about 30 minutes of time. Don't forget the back seat cupholders! Kids love to get crud in those, a nice organic break-down cleaner does wonders on kid crud!

I think you probably undercharged them, but if it leads to future work that's not too bad....

Yes those cup holders are aweful ....spray some cleaner in them and let it sit while you do the rest of the work,..another way to clean them is to use the steam from the steam cleaner to loosen the dirt, gum, snot, etc...

Forget about the mats..tell them it'll not be worth your time to properly clean them ....it's more important to get the carpet and seats clean, they are not replacable as easy as mats...

pics

Here are the pics. 3.5 Hours, $150 Canadian.

They're very happy and took about 5 extra business cards for their neighbours who came over during the detail and asked them what they were having done.

As legendary Delta bluesman Cletus "Blind Dog" Jefferson would say....

Dayum....dat van was absolutely and positively dizzzzzzzzzz gustin!

Nice job! Did you use the Little Green, and if you did, what did you use for a cleaning solution?

No, I figured that the Little Green Machine would be puking its guts out on a job like this, so I rented an Easy-Off cleaner with upholstery wand from the supermarket. It had a lot more lift than the Green Machine, which was nice, but wasn't heated like my little Proheat. I think the Heated Little Green might have done a better job but it was just too big of an area to do, and with its lack of lift it would have taken forever.

For solution, I used my standard AutoMagic #8 HD (30:1) sprayed on, then extracted with water only. I'm going to bump my ratio up to 20:1 for a little more power from now on.

BTW I tried "Spot Shot" stain remover on this; Its junk! Pretreating with #8 HD full strength works much better and is way cheaper.

WOW!!! Great work.

How many years of dirt is that?

I need to purchase some AM #8HD.

What did you use the spot shot on? How did you use the spot shot? I have never used spot shot, but have heard good things about spot shot.

Thats just downright amazing work! Im afraid if someone would have brought me something like that, I would have passed out.

I tried it as a pretreatment on some of the darker grease stains and it did nothing. AM #8HD full strength works everytime though. I heard good things about Spot Shot too, but its just hype. One can only lasted me two vehicles (its extremely pressurized; about 10 blasts and the can is empty).

Its on my "tried it, won't get fooled again list".
