What were your old school products you used?

Oh, and it seem like *everyone* used Dupont #7 stuff at some point, I used it as late as the mid-'80s on the Jag. I remember their powder-style detergent too (shudder).

To quote Mike Phillips from MOL 3/05: "The chemists at Meguiar's recently reformulated A-12 Cleaner Wax to bead water like nobody's business! Water beads are small, tall and tight and last and last. Water beading, as well as darkness gets better and better with each additional coat."



Hey, I remembered a few others...the Dupont white polishing compound and the brown (or was it red?) rubbing compound that you used if the #7 didn't cut it. Between the Kit and the Meguiar's, I used Starbrite...anyone remember that? Then there was the Blue Poly that a guy I worked with told me I HAD to try...one of the first widely sold polymer waxes, I think. I remembered a few other Mirror Glaze products, #4 for my old single stage car, #5 (I don't remember why I bought this, but I know you still use it, Accumulator..I still have my old clear cylindrical bottle of it).
 
I used to use a Meg's Mirror Glaze wax (very hard paste) that was baby blue color and was almost impossible to remove if it was left on the finish for even a couple of minutes. It might have been Meg's #14. It came in a nickel plated or chrome plated tin. Anybody remember this one?
 
Starbrite polish, Liquid glass, collinite, Meguiars #7,#16 #26 and especially the cleaner wax in the red bottle. Nufinish, raindance, Autofom surface sealant from blue coral, Boyds ( great stuff ),Butter wax, Blue diamond carnuba, Malms, Gliftone, Mothers sealer & paste wax, original simoniz, Classic from turtlwax, Race glaze, Blitz & Omega glaze, 3M IHG , Liquid luster,Kit ,Zymol



I just recently dumped a lot of this stuff too.

#16?? you can still get it in uk, it still has a good following
 
I've never used #16 but I don't think that it's the same one. The one I had was a shiny silver metal tin and only contained about 7 ounces of product. It smelled exactly like shoe polish. I was told by the paint supply shop where I bought it (in the early 1970's) that it was one of Meguiar's kind of 'secret' products and had been discontinued because of the high price ($14 for only 7 ounces). He only had 3 cans left in the back room so I bought one. It was one of the best carnauba based waxes that I've ever used.

Well slap me silly and call me Mabel! You're right, the small tin on the bottom (first pic) is the one I had. For some reason I was thinking it was no. 12 or 14 but you're right - it was the first version of no. 16 (at least I think it was the first). Thanks for the help on my trip down memory lane.
 
I remember the guys that were really into cars used Blue Coral and Armor All just came out, All those shiny dashes,

Some of the stuff I used to use is listed below



Rally (as I recall it was a white cream type wax.



Turtle (same as is sold today)



TR3 Resin glaze came out and I remember it being the first thing you could leave on overnight to "cure"



Of course the Mirror Glaze PASTE wax I think it was about like if not the same as #7. It set up like concrete and would take me forever to get off the car.



And I recall something called Shines like the sun. I think it was in a yellow can and was a typical paste. Back then paste waxes were real wax. Liquids were sissy waxes.



I think there was a carnbua wax that had the word classis in the title though that is all I can remember.



I washed my car 2-4 times a week back then and wax was at least every 1-2 weeks. In the winter I would get hot water from the kitched to keep it from freezing while I dried the car.





So if there any old timers out there what else did you used to use back in the day?

Ya I'm 40 and i remember the Turtle wax, Back then it was some on the hardest stuff to come off, really had to work.

Astro shield ( Anyone remember this stuff? ) LOL
