What Wax?

Classy Detail

I will soon going to detail a pearl white metallic. I just need some advice which wax should I use. I have CK Carnauba Moose Wax, #16 and P21S. Thanks in advance.

I think any of those would look great. My personal choice would probably be P21s for looks and ease of application.

I get emails and phone calls every day from people asking this question: "What wax should I use on my car?" That's kind of like calling the doctor and saying: "Hey doc, I'm sick. What medicine should I take."

Before you decide on a wax, make certain of the health of the overall paint finish: contamination, swirl marks, stains, etc. Does the finish feel smooth BEFORE applying wax? Remember, the wax is the last step to seal in all the homework you've done up to that point. The wax you select should be dictated by some answers you get from the owner of the car, such as:

Is the car garaged? During the day? At night?

How often do you spend time maintaining your car? Once a week? Once a month? A large puddle?

Obviously you don't want to put a P21S on a car that gets attention twice a year. The wax will be gone in 30 days and the guy will conclude that you used junk on his car--and maybe even that you're a second-rate detailer!

"Hey doc, I'm sick. What medicine should I take."

"That depends!!"

Peggy makes some excellent points about the intended use of the vehicle.

CMW is decently durable (in my experience) for a liquid wax but #16 is the most durable carnauba based product I have personally used. I really like P21S/S100 also but it isn't as durable as the others.
