What vacuum do you use?

I have been looking around lately, and was wondering what kind of vacuum you guys use in your detailing. I've heard mention of using a shop vac, but then I saw the one on the autopia site with all of the attachments. I was just wanting to know what all of the professionals out there are using.
 
I use a Rigid model, I believe its 4 gallons and 5hp. It cost something like $70 and comes with a hose and a few attatchments. You also have the option of buying a $20 accessory kit which includes another hose and even more attatchments. Its a great little vacuum, with lots of suction, and very portable.

I have a Wap/Alto SQ-15. Although it is expensive, it is well worth it in my opinion. This is especially true if it is going to see daily commercial use. It is powerful, but the most useful feature is that it is very quiet. This is not only better for the user, but reduces noise pollution that can irritate people.
 
I picked up a Festool CT Mini after looking at the Alto WAP and a few other commercial units. The deciding factor was their West Coast HQ/Repair Facility is 15 minutes from my house. Six or eight months of usage and I haven't regretted the purchase for one second. Powerful, extremely quiet and compact. German made. . . that's important right?!
 
Come on... If you're gonna get a vacuum, get one that'll never be not enough!



Its only $149.99 or $159.99 for the biggest, most powerful Ridgid available. 6.5hp shopvac will suck pine needles, pet hair, anything.



I am in love with my 6.0hp Ridgid, :)

Whoa! Do you have a link to that specific model? That vac must mean serious business, figuratively speaking.

Couldn't agree more. Additionally, I enjoy being able to hear a potential client speak "hello" rather than yell "HEY!" to get my attention.
 
The SQ-15 is not made anymore. It think the SQ-10 and 15 had the same motor. There may have been one even smaller with the same motor. I have not had one issue since I purchase it over three years ago.
 
WAP & ALTO SQ. I forget the #s but they are most likely 10 gallon models. Expensive but quite, powerful and 1st class design and construction. Spike, our 3 year old Bull Mastiff loves to be vacuumed. And they are also suitable as a detailing vac and a shop vac

I have this same exact vacuum, and while it has good suction, it still seems to fall short of the suction power of the larger 12 gallon Ridgid with the same hp rating that has been in my household way before I got the WD4050 model. Is that normal? I bought the WD4050 for it's small size and porability, but was under the impression that it would just as powerful as the 12 gallon version since they both have the same rated power.



Also, to the poster who thinks this unit is quiet... I definitely wouldn't call it quiet, but not overly loud either. Mine does tend to emit a high pitched, fairly annoying whistle from the attachment at times though. Anyone else experience this?
 
I use a craftsman 5hp 4gallon. I like it 's size. The power is good too. When the time comes

I will get a wap or a porter cable. Quiet is great.
 
I got my Wap from Sonny's Car Wash Supply. There are several vendors on the internet that carry them. If you run a search you will find a few. The SQ line has been replaced by the Atix line.
