What to use to remove wax from black trim??

Peanut oil, WD 40 or Poorboys World Trim restore, any of these used with a tooth brush and buffed with a clean towel will work very effectively

PakShak sells GR-40,

DO they still? Can't recall if I got mine there or TOL :nixweiss

I had high hopes for that stuff, but it didn't get the [whatever/?polish?/?compound?] residue off the M3's beltline trim all that well. I swear *NOTHING* got that stuff off the way one would hope/expect and I didn't want to merely conceal it (and have it come back for the next owner).

I finally abraded it away with a brass brush (don't try this at home, kids) and then KAIO'ed the [crap] out of it before doing the 845. Last I heard it hadn't come back, but nothing would surprise me in that case.

While it does a nice job *cleaning* the trim, I, too, have had mixed results in terms of old wax removal. FWIW, I find older BMW trim to be very difficult to remove product residue from (any of the E3X, E46, and E53) The trim on the newer models seems to be a bit "harder" and easier to remove wax and polish from.

Right now I am using mineral oil on trim, which not only removes/dissolves old wax, but also cleans it very well (as evidenced by the grime on my MFs that I use it with). It also acts as a sort of dressing, leaving a dark finish and repelling water rather nicely.
