what to use on this?

Hey guys, just got a quick question...

What can I use to get the hood cowl on my supra back to looking black, instead of with this white powdery look it has now??

I got some pictures... just tell me what to use, and where to get it, and it will be done (and if I can get something locally in Miami, even better)

Side question... is there a good store in Miami to get detailing products?

Thanks guys.

dont mind the leafs... just took the picture before the weekly wash.

I have had good success with Meguiar's Gold Class Trim Detailer on two cars, one whose trim was looking pretty bad with white oxidization (or whatever it is). The Trim Detailer really made it look good again, and it lasted a couple of months before I had to re-apply.

More recently I have been using the Ultima Tire and Trim Guard on the cowl of my S2K. It's been about a month and so far it is still look quite good. But the stuff is quite pricey. Unless the durability turns out to be terrific, I might find myself back to recommending Megs' Trim Detailer. It does a good job and it's reasonably priced. If you don't like what it does, take it back to the store (with receipt) and get your money back (100% customer satisfaction, etc.).

I was going to use the Ultima T & T on the cladding of our new CR-V, but I'm pleased by the look and ease of UPGP, I've decided to just stick with it for paint, trim, cladding, the works. Why add another additional step?

thanks guys... I guess I'll try the meguier's first, since it's most likely something I can find locally... then go from there...

I believe one of my friends has the klasse AIO that I'll try next.

Thanks again, I'll post the results as I get a chance to try some things out.

Most of those products are just making that area look good and doing nothing to remove the actual problem. I would try scrubbing it with some AOC and a tooth brush to see if that removes it.

Its like when you get some wax on a plastic trim and use Back to black to fix it a week later its white and looks horrible again. The only way to keep it looking good is by actually removing whatever it is.

I would clean (scrub it with your car wash), then apply some Klasse AIO or a light polish, followed by KSG or another sealant.

It looks like you have a non textured plastic, that was originally shiny. Try using some dense foam or qtips in the grooves. It will be time consuming but hopefully get the look you want.

To me it looks like weathered plastic, very common for the cowl to deteriorate since its always in direct contact with the sun.

Just like it was mentioned before you can use a vast number of trim "restorer" but after a couple of months max it will wear off and look like crap again. You need to use some kind of dye like "forever black". That or spray paint it with plastic/trim paint. The 3-rd option is to replace the cowl. Thats what i did in my M3. You might want to give the dealer a call or look online see how much the parts costs. For my M3 it was only $40-$50 and i decided to buy a new one. Youll spend at least half that on products that might or might not work. Nothing will compare with a new piece, and now make sure you use some kind of protector so the new one will last longer. Good luck.
