Hey guys,
I have a 2002 Explorer, and the plastic trim wont hold any products that I have. I have tried many trim dressing but none seems to want to stick. They look nice on the trim but after a couple of days they are all gone. What do you recomend? Thanks

Is that smooth plastic trim? If so, PB's Trim Restorer will not bond to it. The surface has to be textured to use TR.

I will generally use some type of one-step paint product (e.g. Clearkote Vanilla Moose, Klasse AIO, Poorboy's Polish with Carnuba) on very smooth plastics.

I have a CR-V which also has non-stop smooth black trim. I have used TR, which I have found does not hold up well but does clean the trim from any little bits of wax or QD+ that I might inadvertently get on there. I have had excellent durable results using VM applied with a Wolfgang Polishing Pal (I'm not saying this is essential, it's just the applicator that I used) and buffed it out with my PC and a short nap MF bonnet over a 4" Spot-Buf polishing pad. It left a nice soft black gloss thaat has held up for 10 weeks thus far. It's about time to do it again. I have ProPolish, but never thought of using it for the trim, so I might give that a try soon. I have found both the 4" Spot-Buf kit and the Polishing Pal to be excellent, useful additions to my detailing arsenal and are worth the investment.

I recently bought an '05 explorer XLS. The XLS has naked black plastic bumpers and wheel well trim, as well as roof racks and door edge guards. I have been using Meg's exterior trim detailer, and have noticed that it doesn't last very long either. I'm applying it with a sponge, and wiping down with MF. Within a week it has lost all it's shine, and doesn't look all that hot. The car is black, and I really, really don't want that plastic to fade to that gray color. The car is NOT garaged, as the fiance's lexus and my sea-doo occupy that space.

I would greatly appreciate some advice here.

Thanks

I too have been using 303 on all my plastic/rubber trim, I didn't know some of you have been using your normal cleaner/polish.

What would a rough trim look like as compared to that smooth trim?

Could someone please tell me what they use on the rubber seal/grommet around the glass? I've been using 303, but can I use what I put on my paint?

A textured trim piece looks like it has a grain or some type of pattern in the surface. A smooth trim piece is just that - completely smooth. Take a look at the plastic surfaces around your household. Once you start comparing, it becomes pretty easy to distinguish smooth plastic from textured plastic.

For most exterior black trim pieces around vehicle windows, I use a one step polish/protectant like Clearkote Vanilla Moose or Klasse AIO. For the internal weather stripping (you have to open the door to see these pieces of trim), I use something like Einszett Gummi Pflege Stift or Poorboy's Natural Look.
