What to use on Subbie plastic cladding?

My 2007 Subaru Outback has plastic lower body cladding. I've heard a few people say now that they do the lower plastic body cladding the same way they do the paint: clay, polish, wax. It seems to turn out nicely that way. But I read a tutorial once that said not to treat plastic the same as paint because the polish can scratch the plastic, and so to only use plastic products on plastic like Plexus. What say you experts?

I think they mean unpainted plastic when they say that. Painted plastic should be treated the same way as painted steel/aluminum.

By the way the rear tailgate on the Subaru is also has a plastic section just above the rear license plate. That whole section with the Suby badge that goes from left to right is plastic. Ask me how I know? :)

I treated that stuff just like the rest of the (painted) exterior when I had an Outback and it worked great.

FWIW, I even treat many unpainted exterior plastic pieces just like regular painted panels and it's usually the right approach. Gotta use the appropriately aggressive/not product and also watch for the "white staining" of some products on some surfaces, but other than that I've never had any problems with those kinds of surfaces.
