What to use for engine dress up?

The discontinuation of CD2 Engine Detailer has made me even more curious about Griot's Engine Bay Dressing. Does anyone know anything about it? Has anyone used it?

You mean the aerosol stuff?

I bought a can of that but chickened out on using it for various reasons. When the can leaked and left amber-tinted paint-like [stuff] all over the shelf I was glad I didn't spray that [stuff] around in *my* engine compartment.

SHRUG.... eh, I pefer a rather understated look under the hood anyhow.

i don't like to disagree with anyone who likes cd-2, but i bought 2 cans a while ago and i used it, for me i did'nt like it at all. i used it for my fender wells. it ran, i had to wipe up after it., the malco perfect 10 does'nt run, you don't have to wipe up afer it, it drys dry, never greasy.

Well, a guy over at MOL just called the Marvel support line and asked them to confirm that CD-2 is being discontinued. He was told that the product has NOT been discontinued; in other words, he was told just the opposite what I was told. My apologies if I passed on incorrect information.

That's weird because I cannot find it anywhere.

Okay, I just got off the phone for the second time with the CD-2 Hot Line. The lady told me that the CD-2 Engine Detailer is not available. Here's the CD-2 phone number: (312) 649-2708. Perhaps others can call and see what answer they get.

EDIT: I just called the Turtle Wax support line, and according to their information, CD-2 Engine Detailer is still available: 1-800-Turtlewax. Go figure. Perhaps TW still has stock of CD-2 left and is waiting to sell out completely before announcing the discontinuation of the product; or perhaps the CD-2 customer support computers are all goofed up and they are passing out bad information. Beats me.

I'm a big fan of CD-2. Prep the engine bay with P21S TAW, let dry and then apply CD-2. You can wipe it away after 20 minutes, but I have had better results running the car for 20-30 miles or waiting a day and then buffing off the excess. I found this method leaves a nicer shine. Luckily it's been in stock at my local AutoZone for the past year and a half running.

I remember CD-2 was widely discussed as being discontinued 2 or 3 years ago, I bought 6 cans of those that were left at the time. Then it seemed to come back and be widely available again for a long period of time. Maybe they make it in large batches only occasionally -- I have no idea if this is the case, but definitely this is at least the second time it was thought to be discontinued.

the dressings are all good for the wires and tubings too? or do you use something else for those?

Yeah, I usually use 303 (when I bother doing such stuff). I kinda prefer Autoglym Bumper Care on the less-porous surfaces.

i use malco perfect 10 dressing. works great. personally i've tried cd-2 and now i use it for my wheel wells.
