What to top 845 IW with?

845 IW smellls very chemical/solvent like but on the other hand ut has great durability which I dig.

I just put a layer on my finish yesterday and would like to top it with something but was wondering, will a topper over 845 degrade the 845 due to its chemical nature? Other waxes and sealants don't smell so strong to my nose.

I'm leaning towards OCW because that would add some depth to my black finish. IW is more of a simple glossy/candy shell type look IMO and I need some depth and durabilty.

Is OCW fine to use over IW? Will IW degrade in its durability if its topped?

OCW will be fine on top of 845 but I think 915 is more what you are looking for.

I didn't top my 845 with anything the entire time it was on my car, I got roughly 6 weeks out of it. Using foam cannon/pressure washers weekly.

From my experience with 845 on daily drivers that sit outside 24/7 im getting about 4 to 5 months. (results vary due to many factors)

I generally top 845 with 476S, so I'd go with one of the Collinite pastes, perhaps the 915 that Dan suggested.

Dan/Accum, will 915 add the darkness and depth I'm looking for? My finish is solid Black.

I see you really Like V7 MDRX8 , Does it darken the paint and add depth? Whats durability Like? OCW is pretty decent in durability.

Its no silver bullet, but probably the most durable stuff that looks great on darker colors. The looks are on par, if not better than OCW.

I hesitate to say what appearance diff the paste topper will give, but it oughta swap a little of the 845's "brightness" for a little "depth". Note the scare-quotes though ;)

I really do like the 845-then-476S though. The 845 is less likely to bite you if you're a little sloppy (excessive residue along trim/etc. and it's more trim-friendly) and the 476S goes on/off a bit easier over 845 compared to bare paint (not that it's every *tough* or anything).

I do what was suggested in another post on this forum.

845/476/845 sandwich and call it a day....

Some QD occasionally.

476 has more depth as Scottwax mentioned....

Works great...

Hmmm....I'm actually a bit afraid to put on 915 or 476. After I applied 1 coat of 845 (via hand) as thin and even as I could, and buffed off with a clean new microfiber, it was about sunset but the car looked real good to my eyes at the moment,

Then later on, I saw the finish under the street lights and I could see streaks and clouds. Another round of buffing hard brought perfect clarity back.

What I didn't like was that I had to buff off 845 kinda hard even though I tried to put it on thin and even. Whats the most effecient way to buff and remove wax? I don't always have my polisher on hand?

I've noticed some LSP's buff off effortlessly whilst others give you some trouble.

mystickid- What did you use before the 845? I've never had any issues from the 845, but I have had problems from oils left by stuff like M205.

reek099- Doing that "sanwich" leaves things in-between the looks of either 845 or 476S used separately. It might leave things a little too "bright" for what mystickid is after.

Accu,

I used Hi-Temps New "Akyra Klean" (prep wash) to remove the 1 coat of poxy on the finish. The car finish was in post polish state with swirls and scratches. I first washed the car with dawn and CWC & also threw a little prep wash into the solution to ensure I clean the finish to bare paint. After washing a drying, I used the WOWO method as it instructs on Akyra Klean AKA prep wash.

The paint finish looked good and there was no beading and sheeting. Water kinda just stayed stagnant on horizontal panels.

Then 1 coat of IW 845 with light even pressure in small circular motions. But after all that, I wasn't able to buff off to perfect clarity.

Going over it with a new MF and ONR QD removed the remaining streaks and clouds though. I'm kinda wishing for a super easy and efficient way to buff off lsps like 845 properly.

One question, do sealants like BFWD work better as toppers for 845 or waxes like #26?

Wow, I've really underestimated 476s! First time actually looking into it and saw it on autogeek just now. And it has a 5 star rating with 28 reviews. I don't see to many products get loads of reviews unless they're phenomenal or plain terrible. After all these years I think 476s will be the way to go for me considering it's exceptional longevity/beading, shine and Depth!

I have to buy it and try it out now.

nystickid- Huh, sounds like you did everything right, though I do rinse my PrepWash instead of just WOWOing it.

No idea why the 845 misbehaved the way it did :nixweiss

I do like to buff off the bulk of my LSP residue with a polisher and MF bonnets, doing the final passes by hand. And as I'm always saying, I fog the surface with my breath before buffing.

I wouldn't try applying a sealant over 845, I'd stick with paste waxes.

Thin thin thin with the 476S, slightly damp applicator (distilled or DI water).

I like to use cookie monster towels, those seem to grab the best for me and take off/buff very well.

Afterwards I do a final inspection with a QD and that usually catches all of the missed spots.

Try to apply 845 thinner and almost like a WOWO product. Lately with higher temps I found that I can apply it to a panel in straight lines with little to no pressure extremely thin and then wipe it all off immediately after.

And 476 is the real deal. Again, super thin, hazing is okay, but drying is not.

Interesting, I always let both dry and have no issues.

YMMV?

Of course, applying super thin makes thing easier, AND my ghosting/clouding 845 problem came from applying it over HD SPEED. I had to strip everything with APC to start over, Dawn and IPA didn't touch it, so I had to strip as best as I could. Starting over fresh made it work perfectly.
