What to protect expensive multi-spoke wheels with? (CCW content)

I’m almost certain it’s just polished aluminum.

No clear coat.

The marring was induced by myself after using autosol via hand and a MF towel.

Are both the mothers products you mentioned capable of working via hand or do I need the powerball for the drill ?

Confirmed with the makers. The lip is polished aluminum. No clear.

The centres are powder coated clear!

The lips are easy-peasy to clean. The centres would be a night are if they were polished!

Now I need to fix my mistake on the polished lip :(

But won`t the portion of the lip where the fasteners are be a PIA?

Yep I had a set similar to the OPs many years ago and you had to metal polish the lips almost constantly they would tarnish or something so quick, tried so many blue magic worked well so does Poorboys. I never could get anything that would actually last protection wise to make them look fresh

I’m not too worried about their shape or condition. This car will never see rain , let alone any other bad weather.

My biggest concern right now is fixing the f-*** up I made on them (pics above) I’m hoping the mothers billet will work as per one of the members recommendations!

Can I just try It on a cloth or do I need the mothers power ball ?

Sure you can work it by hand too. Alot of elbow grease and maybe use a mf applicator. Think that Billet is less aggressive than Mags &Alu is. But both are very fine polishes.
 
Striker- Given the regrets of so many who *have* used the PowerBall, I`d never even consider it, way too worried that it wouldn`t be Accumulator-proof no matter what its fans say.

I`d be doing it by hand with an assortment of gentle abrasives. MAYBE cotton for the initial passes, but definitely MF for the subsequent work.

I don`t recall ever using AutoSol, but I`d *NEVER* trust any of my Flitz/Maas/other "general use metal polishes" on such stuff. IIRC, back when I had bare aluminum I used my gentlest Paint Polishes (during the time I bothered being Autopian with `em). If faced with that [challenge] today, I`d probably be testing my mildest Aluminum Polish from Caswell Plating; that stuff`s so gentle I`d expect it to take countless hours to do one rim, but it`s made for the "chrome-like perfecton" level of aluminum polishing.

If this weren`t Autopia, I`d probably say something about "merely delaying the inevitable", but yeah, I too have had the best possible intentions regarding cars that`d never be used hard, hence those mostly unused products from Caswell.

Sure you can. I polish my exhaust tips with M205 and they are stainless steel. It does just as good as a metal polish.
 
I’ll try my least aggressive combo which is 85rd on a 3m finishing pad. Or a white LC pad.

I have used paint coatings on wheels as well as dedicated rim coatings on wheels. The dedicated products are suppose to be more heat resistant. I’m not sure I buy the fact that micro layer can withstand heat any better but I’m no scientist. Lol

I had sucess with opticoat, C5 Gretch, PA super sport (this is more looks than durability and a great rim coating topper). gyeon rim and lately IGL wheel. You have some serious aftermarket rim so if it were me I would look to go dedicated rim product.
 
You do bring up a good point. No denying that.

Anyone of the ones you mentioned you like in particular ?

Striker- I wouldn`t try M205 on those wheels, only on harder metals (oh man is it good for that), but milder stuff might be just the ticket as it`ll probably be much *milder* than an Aluminum Polish. Looks to me like you need something milder than everything you`ve tried so far, at least for the final steps.

Is this starting to make you worry about long-term upkeep?
 
Absolutely not.

The lips are the only thing polished.

And the reason for the whole needing to polish them bit is because I messed up and created the scratches.

Striker- OK, I`d be worried that I`d scratch `em again after that inevitable "oops, shouldn`t have let `em get this dirty.." cleanup. But you`re more Autopian than Yours Truly so I guess that`s less likely to happen to you ;)
