What to do with this leather? (pics)

I bought this car not too long ago and it doesnt seem that the previous owner took care of the leather like he should have. I am trying to bring it back. But only the leather on that one panel is cracked. Everything else is good.

Please advise!

Thanks

its holding up really good...some of the worse creases show up as fine lines where the leather flexes in the same spot

im still very satisfied with how it works...its value , and i can always touch it up again in a few years if required

How did my leather get this way in the first place??? No leather conditioner? Too much use? Or combination of both?

Steveo - seems like a great product! I'll look into it this weekend and certainly post "after" pics in the future.

After you sanded and dyed the damaged leather, are you able to apply leather cleaner and conditioner to it without the dye coming out?

It could have been the use of leather conditioner that caused this in the first place.

The combination of oils from leather conditioners, dirt and friction are what causes most of the problems on car seats.

The leather should be protected with a water based conditioner rather then fed or conditioned whether it is new or old and recoloured or not. This will help reduce the liklihood of damage and keep the leather supple (leather needs moisture not oils and waxes).

Hope this helps

Someone recommended that I get the Leatherique system and that would take care of most of the cracks. Should i try this first? Or just go with the Leather Magic?

It just seems as if though sanding and dying might be overkill. Or maybe not?

I do not see how Leatherique is going to magically mend the cracks in the leather coating. Sanding and re-dyeing is the only way to repair that damage. If not, you should just learn to live with the damage.

it is actually amazing what just the leatherique will do, but i would use the leatherique dying kit(it is awesome) just go for the redye and be done with it. the stuff is awesome and it will look brand knew if it is done right.

I have used it and did not notice anything amazing about it. I do agree that the re-dye kit is the way to go.

Thanks for the replies. Ill just go for the sanding and dye kit.

But since only one section of the leather needs to be fixed, how will i get the newly dyed leather to match with the rest of the seat? Or do i need to dye the entire seat?

Well leatherique can custom match dyes, however, I would recommend you find a qualified pro to handle the repair.
