I discovered that for a little extra effort, but no extra expense, you can get a much better return on your fliers distributed door to door. All you have to do is write a personal message about a person's car in red ink at the bottom, just look at whatever's in the driveway and write something complimenting it but also stressing what a great job you could do on it or how much better it could look. This takes longer to do, but I have done it a couple times and usually get at least one call from ~25 fliers.
Another tip for distributing fliers door to door: go to an art store and pick up some "repositionable mounting tape". It's double sided tape that is just tacky, so once you put it on something (like a flier) it becomes just like a post-it note and you can restick it as many times as you want. It's cheap and it made my fliers a lot easier to distribute, no more looking for a crevice to put it and have the wind blow it away, just stick it right at eye level and your done. Keeps the fliers neater too, no folding or crinkling.
