What to do with a new vehicle?

King Nothing- The ABC might be available in smaller sizes through Ford dealers, maybe PM Ron Ketcham as he's the authority on that topic.

I bet it'll benefit from a polish, dunno if what you have will do the job with that PC though.

M205 leaves a *LOT* oils behind IME, be sure to get 'em all removed before coating if you use that polish.  IME you won't get things really clean with merely an IPA wipe,  at least I sure couldn't.

How're you doing with regard to keeping the interior OK?

The ABC system is more expensive at Ford Dealers and is only availible in gallons from what I've been able to discover.

It seems finish kare makes a 3 part decontamination wash that comes in 1/2 gallons. Any feedback?

@Accumulator, I think I'm doing OK keeping the interior in good shape considering the crappy weather we have been seeing. I've got factory rubber mats that are helping, and the carpet being black is helping too. I'll have to clean it thoroughly as soon as the weather turns.

So I don't want to use the 205 due to the oils (unless I can get something to remove them afterwards?), can you recommended me something that will work with my PC, preferably with the hydro-tech pads I have? If need be I can buy other pads, but I'm stuck with the PC that I have for the forseeable future. Hard to justify replacing a "perfectly good": tool that I rarely use to the wife. I might be able to sneak one of the Harbor Freight DAs past her since I have a gift card. I know, I know..... Harbor freight, but would it be an upgrade over my old non-XP 7424?

If you're going to use OptiCoat why not just use Optimum polishes as they require no IPA wipe down before applying OptiCoat?  Perhaps Hyper Compound and/or Hyper Polish would meet your needs.

The HF DA with a quality 5" backing plate is more powerful than even the current PC and there are a number of people using them with great success.

I would have preferred to use the products that I have. I'm looking at the optimum page on AG and see the hyper compound and polish are both sprays? Or are they available as regular "cream" as well? Will they work with the hydro-tech pads that I have?

King Nothing- Sorry, I don't really know from the Harbor Freight unit, but plenty of people do like them for the $.

I never did all that well with Optimum's polishes.  OK, "user-error!", but if something's not Accumulator-proof then I hesitate to recommend it.  I'd go with the HD stuff.  I resisted trying it for ages (hey, I'm nobody's fanboy and I just knee-jerked about a product from the owner of a site where I'm so active) but when I finally did I was utterly astounded by how user-friendly the Cut and Polish are.  And as best I can tell they leave *VERY* little behind so an IPA wipe oughta suffice.

I used the Polish on a Griot's polishing pad (AFAIK very similar to the hydrocut) and it the polish worked great on my wife's A8.  Not all that much correction, but hey it's a mild combo.  I'm still wowed by how user-friendly it was..think I'll retire all my other finishing polishes.

Optimum has Polish II and Compound II which are their conventional non-spray polishes.  All of them are fine with the Hydrotec pads as are all of the HD products.   I only mentioned the Optimum products as they require no IPA wipe down prior to applying OptiCoat.   As Accumulator mentioned HD Cut and HD Polish are really user friendly products (my go to products) and don't leave heavy oils behind, but it would require an IPA wipe down.

Just a reminder--if you get the HF DA make sure you order yourself (unless you already have one) a quality 5" backing plate as the HF one is a 6" and every one I've seen has been not of the best quality.  If you have a 5" BP for your PC it would work on the HF.

Thanks guys. I have 5 and 4 inch BPs already. I'll look into the HD and optimum polishes. I've got m105 so I won't need a compound till I've used that up. I've never been impressed with the results I've gotten in the past compounding and polishing. Always thought I was going something wrong but maybe the problem was the PC

King Nothing- I have two of the "original model" PCs and I can say without any doubt that better machines completely change the ballgame.  I no longer even use the PCs for waxing, they simply sit on the shelf.  For quite a while I had one set up with a 3" pad for spot-repairs, but life it just too short to [mess] around doing it with such an inefficient machine.  Effective?  Well...yeah, it really will do the work if you put in the time.  But efficient?  Not by any standards I can think of except *maybe* in comparison to doing it by hand.

I see that opti-coat 2.0 comes in a syringe. Is a guy able to cap it off and use it later? I don't have time to polish and opti-coat this whole huge (full crewcab with 6.5 ft bed) truck in one day and I also don't have enough pads to do the whole truck in one shot. I think I have 4 hydrotech polishing pads. Id like to apply the opti-coat as soon as Im done polishing to avoid contamination and possibly having to redo the polish. I also feel that by working on one panel/section of the truck at a time from start to finish I can pay more attention to each panel. What Im wondering is if I could break the project up into multiple days. like do the bed one day, the cab another, and the front clip on another. will the opti-coat keep or does it all have to be used at once?

Ling Nothing- YES, that should work fine.  It took me quite a while to use up my first syringe of OptiCoat (just used it on two sets of wheels months apart, and then, much *much* later, some suspension bits) and I didn't have any problems at all.
