What speed for SMR?

What speed is reccomended for the PC w/ 3M SMR for Dark Cars? Also, my swirls are pretty bad... so what kind of pad should I be using? Would a yellow pad do? Do I need somthing more aggressive?

Seems to me like most people recommed 6 for SMR & FI-II. I've used both products @ speed 6with CMA's white & yellow pads, with great results.

What speed does this translate to for non PC machines?

I have an old Waxmaster which I understand is probably only suitable for waxing and buffing. However, it is all I have and I was wondering if it would be better than trying to remove swirls, minor scratches, blemishes, etc, by hand?

The numbers on the PC speed wheel are the OPM in thousands. So 4 would be 4000 OPM (orbits per minute). So that should help you convert, unless you dont' know what the settings on your machine mean...

I'm sure the Waxmaster would be easier and as effective, if not more so, than hand application. Even if it's slow, I bet it's quicker than your hand.

I usually buff out SMR on 7 :D

That was absolutely hilarious Dave. Sorry I ruined it - I bet someone would have believed you and complained to Coastal Tool or the place they bought it from. LOL.

In fact, my PC does not come in the mail until Tuesday. However, I'm pretty sure the PC's maximum speed on the thumbwheel is 6. The whole number seems to correspond with the OPM? The max is 6000 OPM.

If you've never seen the movie 'Spinal Tap', go rent it. Gotta be able to pick up on all those cultural references! Plus it's fun to see Rob Reiner in action in front of the camera.
