What should I do about this cheap paint job?

A while back, my grandmother gave me a 1996 Toyota camry (with only about 90K miles) for free, since she bought herself a new car. Since my brother was living with her for some time, he kinda took ownership of the car and had several modifications done to it...including a crappy paint job. Either way, here are pictures of a simple cleanup of the car. I really didn't break out the PC because I wasn't even sure if it was worth it, being that some of the paint is chipping and peeling.

I really don't want to spend a lot of money having this car repainted, so I was thinking about taking it to Maaco for a quick once over. I am not very comfertable with that, but it's a 10 year old car, and like I said...I dont want to spend a lot of money on a paint job. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do with this paint? Will a PC help the appearance of a cheap paint job?

I apologize for the poor quality of the pics...still need to find time to buy a better camera...

So you want to fix a crappy paint job by taking it to Maaco where you'll just get another crappy paint job? That doesn't make much sense...

The main body of the car doesn't look too bad in the pictures and the rear bumper and lower rear panel are the damaged areas? If you don't want to spend the money for a good paint job then don't do it. Sure it may look ok right after but theres a good chance that after a while you'll be back at square one again.

From the pictures it looks like the paint didn't adhere to the plastic which could mean that the primer that they used (if they did) didn't bond properly. How much are you wanting to spend? I'd take it down to the near by auto body shops and see what it'll cost to respray the damaged areas. For the ultimate money saver you could get some spray paint and just try to make it look better for a while but the results may not be what you are looking for.

The PC obviously won't help the chipped paint areas so that won't help but you can use it on the rest of the car if you want to do some swirl removal and get even more gloss but from the pictures it looks much better.

A few thousand bucks for the car = crappy paint job

Free car = good enough for me. Let 'er go and drive it like you stole it.

It's a camry so it will run forever if you don't let the oil sludge up which it is prone to do in the camry motors.
