what Rotary's and D/A's do you have in your arsenal?

1. Milwaukee 5540 (amazing polisher, but it's heavy).

2. Flex 3401 VRG (still in the box, i'll get around to using it soon, can't wait).

3. Porter Cable 7424 ( as most of the pro's recommend, it's a must in must in my arsenal, brush attachments make details so much easier).

:getdown

I got my machines in this order

1. First gen UDM

2. Makita 9227

3. Flex 3401 (just got it this week GF's truck will be the guinea pig)

Makita 9227

Cyclo

Griot's Random Orbital

I like all three machines, but the more I use the rotary the more I like it, even for doing non-corrective work.

I probably use the Griot's machine the least, but it's nice for applying waxes.

Past machines:

1 - UDM - it died less than a year after purchase.

2 - Cyclo - sold

3 - Metabo - sold

4 - Flex 3401 DA - sold

Current machines:

1 - PC 7424

2 - PC 7424xp

3 - Flex L3403 VRG rotary

4 - Makita 9227 rotary

Yeah so I've had a lot of machines...hehe!

Since getting the new 7424xp, I use that for all my one-stepper jobs and sometimes I'll throw on the carpet brush attachment for floor mats/carpets. The original 7424 is used for waxing/sealing. The Makita comes out for multi-step correction jobs. I use the Flex rotary for spot correction with 4" pads.

Currently have:

Flex 3401

Metabo PE 12-175 (limited use just got it)

Harbor Freight rotary (used to clean dirty pads, $20 is well worth it don't care about water damage to it)

Looking to add or try out:

Metabo SXE400 (for small detail stuff)

Flex 3403 (compare to Metabo)

Porter Cable 7424 or XP (like to try it)

PC 7424

UDM (The original, still going strong)

Metabo PE-12-175

El-Cheapo Harbor Freight rotary (I couldn't resist, it was on sale for $20!)

Well, actually...now that you mention it :o

But I want to get some feedback about all the "new generation" polishers on the market...UDM/xp/Griot's/G220. No hurry as I, uhm...sorta have things covered already.

i was thinking of purchasing a PC7424XP but already have both the G100 and G110 and there probably isn't much of a noticable difference between that (XP) and the G110. one can never have enough power tools though, so we'll see... :o

I have the Flex XC3401 and I'm thinking of getting the Edge Conversion Adapter for those hard to reach areas.

Unfortunately, putting a small pad on a big machine doesn't get you into tight spots very well.

While small pads will be handy for spot-correction, they won't let the Flex 3401 get into hard to reach areas. The machine's housing becomes the limiting factor. So much so that I haven't bothered using my E2K adaptor nor have I had my buddy turn down my spare backing plate for use with smaller pads. I'll do both of those eventually, but IMO they're not really viable solutions to the tight-spot problem.

Taking off the top handle helps a *little*, but the metal housing (which you then have to hold) gets mighty hot.

I would love a rotary but am far from reaching for one just yet. Scared as hell!! And with Flex now my time is shortened and I feel after a season or two with that i'll be good to dabble in the rotary field.
