What ratio of Simple Green for tires/wheels?

I finally used the last of my Meguiar's APC, and in an effort to clean out my detailing closet, I want to use the gallon of Simple Green I have. Basically, this will be used for cleaning tires and wheels (mostly on my own cars). I wax all my wheels, so I really never get any significant brake dust buildup.

For all you that are using Simple Green as a tire/wheel/wheel well cleaner, what ratio are you mixing it at? I think Meg's APC was calling for 6:1 for tires, and it always did a respectable job.

And no, after searching and reading some of the posts re: Simple Green, I definitely won't be using this for anything other than tires/wheels!

for simple green I use it striaght on the wheels. I have yet to see a neg affects after many years. Just be sure to rinse it all off. And as for using on other stuff, Why not? It's a great cleaner that is safe for the enviroment while doing a great job. I use it on many many things; engines, wheels, stubborn stains on plastic interoir parts, diluted solutions for carpet & cloth.

Yea, I also think simple green is a great APC. I also use it full strength on wheels/tires, but dilute it for interior spray.

I use 50:50 mixture and have great results on my wheels. I apply liberally and provide a little brush. Turns out great. No Probs.

I use it 1:4 on tires and wheel wells. Since I wax my wheels the brake dust just glides off with the regular suds. For serious wheels grime I use a dedicated wheel cleaner.

I'll risk sounding like a real [jerk] and post a :nono about using Simple Green on wheels. You might never get any damage (cool!) but you might get damage that a) occurs sogradually that you don't notice it until it's bad and/or b) get damage unexpectedly that's so bad you'll have to have your wheels refinished. It's happened so many times, to so many people, that I simply can't see letting that stuff get near nice wheels.

Again, sorry to sound like [female dog]y, I'm only posting the above because I don't want you Simple Green users to end up regreting it after it's too late. Better safe than sorry...

IMO the best ratio for Simple Green use anywhere on your car is 0:0 :2thumbs:

I don't dispute folks have had good results with Simple Green. But that stuff does blush aluminum and cloud plastic. I witnessed it first hand. My father stained the wheels green on his 1987 Saab 9000 a few years back with it!

There are so many wonderful APC's out there made specifically for automobiles. You can get Meguiar's APC for $10 a gallon. I also use P21s TAW, EFHI and Automagic 777.

I use Simple Green anti-bacterial in my home almost exclusively for every cleaning purpose except glass and mirrors (Windex). Around the house, it is wonderful, even diluted in the laundry for an extra punch for deep stains (or for your MF towels). But around the car, I don't advise it, especially with all the good APC's out there.

EDIT: If I recall correctly, the US Air Force banned the use of traditional Simple Green!
