What products to buy for this paint?

These are some pictures of my brothers car. It is a 1995 black BMW and the paint is in pretty bad shape. I just got the PC and have never, ever used it before. I am kind of afraid to "practice" on his car but he said it was ok, although he is a little afraid of me burning through his clear coat.



I want to know what products do you recommend I start with as well as which pad to use?



I have heard alot about Meguiars, 3M SMR, Poorboys SSR1, 2, 2.5, Menzerna, Pinnacle Swirl Remover, etc. Which one or ones would be best for this paint? What are the differences in all of the #'s of Meguiars products? #1, #2, #9, #81, #82, #83 DACP and which ones would I need?

I would recommend Poorboys SSR2.5 with a Yellow or Orange LC cutting pad. Then follow up with Poorboys SSR1 with an LC white polishing pad. The substitute would also be for SSR2.5 sub in Menzerna IP and for SSR1 sub in Mernzerna FPII. PB's polishes are a little more user friendly, sun friendly and IMO via PC, SSR2.5 has a tad bit more bite than IP.
 
I think I am going to try the Poorboys line becaue I have also heard that it was easier to use for your average "newbie". I hope this works out as it will be my first PC experience. I will finally see what all the hype was about.



Which pads to use?
 
i like the Poorboy's SSR 2.5 and yes it is kinda easy to work with. as for what pad, it depends on whether the paint is hard or soft. if you are pressed for time, a cutting pad (yellow LC pad) might work. you might get some hazing so follow it up with SSR 1 with either a polishing or finishing pad. that will depend on whether the hazing is going away or not. if it isn't with a polishing pad, try the finishing pad.



you'll love the black once it's swirl free.



and you can reassure your brother that it is quite difficult for you to burn through the clearcoat unless you deliberately try very hard to do so.

Yea, I'd definately start off with either SSR 2.5 or DACP on a cutting pad...



Follow up with either #80, SSR1 or #9 on polishing pad.



Don't worry about 'burning' the paint the PC is pretty much foolproof. I don't see how you could do damage unless you dropped the thing!
 
I don't know whether or not the paint is hard or soft. I am not really pressed for time, I just want to make sure I get all those darn swirls.
