what products got you obsessed with...

I bought a '63 Corvette roadster from a guy who ran out of $$$ while doing a body-off restoration & I was only too happy to finished the job.



Decided to show it at the local Concours d'Elegance shows and a friend introduced me to a product called StarBrite. Some kind of mild polishing compound that also contained some silicone but it left the paint incredibly slick. In those days my LSP was RainDance .... god, did that stuff produce dust.



I remember detailing the car one Saturday night and some sandflies landed on the hood. I almost busted a gut laughing as they tried to crawl up the hood but they were going backwards & eventually fell off.

I think I started with Rain Dance on my dad's '78 Olds Cutlass Supreme. The paint was single stage and polishing compound by hand made it like new. And after it was all shiny and waxed, I loved watching the water bead like crazy after a rainstorm.



Soon after I discovered the joy of "waxing," I discovered the Klasse twins and have been using Klasse since 1987 -- yep, 18 years! Kept trying (however futile) to find something even better. Perhaps the curse of discovering Klasse too early. Even flirted with Malm's for a few years, but I have to say, nothing has fired up the 'ol detailing bug like Menzerna. Working FPII with my Cyclo blew my mind. And I just bought a rotary to try and find out everything Menzerna is capable of.



Naturally, I top it with Klasse.

Blue Coral put out a "package" way back in the day that contained a liquid that you rubbed until squecky clean and all traces of the product were gone (cleaner, I suppose) which you followed up with a milky white paste which was applied much the same way wiping until clear - WOW! What that did for my 1972 fire engine red Pontiac Grand Prix was the bug that bit me hard. Man was that a shine!



Anyone ever hear of the Blue Coral "package"? Is it still available?

:bounce Yea ! I remember the Blue Coral kit vividly. It contained a cleaner and a wax that, as I remember, you had to finish off with a wet terry towel to enhance the slickness. I dont think that kit is around due to its difficulty, plus the paints used on cars have changed..... I did look for it for nostalgic reasons, but I do remember the hard work required to get the car shining... Blue Coral was at that time the high end of retail waxes (come to think of it, there was no internet at the time, only the back pages of car mags...) :woot2: The results were enough to get me started anyway. I am so glad to have this forum to gain a fortune worth of info, FREE ! Blue Coral ! That was the hit back in the day !

In the 80s when I did this for money, it was the Megs line.



About 2 years ago, the P21S line got me back into detailing in a big way as did the PakShak towels. The combination of both just makes hand waxing a breeze.
