Way back in 1988 my family got a new chev Beretta (metallic burgandy)...

It was the 'LIQUID GLASS' trend that got me obsessed with 'waxing'. i remember hand bombing that car alot and doing it probably all wrong!! but it still looked great. still does actually as its surviving in the family as a winter beater.

then my next product way back then was 3M imperial hand glaze a saleperson gave me...he tried to explain the concept of cleaning/polishing/ then waxing steps!! I didnt know a damn thing about the stuff! all new to me at the time!

What was the first products you guys used as a total beginner!?!

Liquid Glass for me too!

MY dad is old school and has been using that crap probably since it came out! It's what I started with and what I used before I found the fbody forums where I got sucked into the Zaino craze

turtle wax...bleach white (love clean whitewalls :D )....armor all..my 88 nissan sentra's interior never looked better..and the infamous green tree for the interior:xyxthumbs

Gliptone's Carnauba Paste Wax (a cleaner wax with limited quality compared with today's lsp's) back in '87 and '88 with my first car. My how things have come a long long way since then.

I've tried other carnaubas with my various cars, as well as a certain popular synthetic product. Meg's is decent, and Mother's makes very good products at their relatively low price point.

However, my eyes did not start to pop until I hit Zymol's estate waxes. It is the Only Wax that I'll use for car#1. It is an addiction, unfortunately. I can't wait for spring and my wax season to try out some new techniques to go with The Wax.

Another excellent discovery I've found was the amazing power in P21S, which at first seemed like a relatively mild wax. This product definitely has staying power, and will give you a nice even toned shine if "layered" (that's right... that word again) properly.

First wax I ever used was Meguiars Cleaner/Wax and I applied it super thick and did the entire car before buffing it off. You can guess what happened. :) Still have that car in the family today and you can probably find chalk stuck in the emblems. But I was never obsessed with it.

I guess Zaino can be obsessive, but right now I'm occupied with anything Mezerna.

FMJ, 7.5 Wheel Cleaner, Final Touch Glaze, Acrylic Shield QD, Final Polish, Intensive Polish, etc.

I became obsessed, when I recieved my most recent car and it had contaminents in the paint, bad swirling etc.

My first product I used on it was DC1,2 and 3.

On my car previous to that I used autoglym srp and turtle wax extreme!! lol.

Who says I'm obsessed? :lol

Meguiars body scrub and three step were the first products I used that moved beyond using simple OTC cleaner waxes.

From there it's been one long slippery slope to Autopia!

Turtle Wax Hard Paste -> Liquid Glass -> 3M Show Car Wax -> 3M Pro -> Mothers 3 step -> Megs 3 step -> Megs Pro -> and at long last, the end for the search of truth, AUTOPIA!

The first wax that I ever used on a car was turtle wax color back, it came in a metal can and smeeled like pure solvent. :D

I was already detailing my bike (redline rl 20b for those of you who grew up in the 80's) with turtle wax chrome polish and windex. I use to polish every spoke and wipe the entire bike down after every ride.  :D

First multi-step detail that I did was #83, #7, #9, #26 all by hand. Used that combo for a while until I discovered easier ways and machine polishing.

For me, probably Armor All....wiping down a dusty dashboard in high school.....then I got more serious when I discovered Wizards Products.

AH obsession, I remember my first obsession, she was blonde, green eyes, 5'2" 110lbs and oh could she move on that dance floor...Ok, Products that we are obsessed with. I'm obsessed with my Porter Cable 7424 and my rotary.

Blue Coral put out a "package" way back in the day that contained a liquid that you rubbed until squecky clean and all traces of the product were gone (cleaner, I suppose) which you followed up with a milky white paste which was applied much the same way wiping until clear - WOW! What that did for my 1972 fire engine red Pontiac Grand Prix was the bug that bit me hard. Man was that a shine!

Anyone ever hear of the Blue Coral "package"? Is it still available?

Liquid Glass for me as well, I even sold it. And now its zaino...

My mother's family used the Meg's "Mirror Glaze" line since forever (elderly aunt with big-block MOPAR: "it's so much easier than Simonize ever was!"); I used that and Pro's stuff back in the '70s when I was first starting with all this.

A friend of mine whose family has a funeral home business used that on their hearse and limo back in the day. Really impressive on ss black, that's for sure. Dunno if they still make it though.

The very first products I used were Mirror Glaze. There was a little Mirror Glaze Shop on Preston Hwy in Louisville, KY, right next to a cemetary (the name escapes me at this time. But it's not far from I-65) Some of the Louisvillians on the site will know what I'm talking about (may be able to make any corrections if needed). But I bought everything there for my first car when was 16.

the obcession started on the 28th of january, 2004. i purchased a blk silverado. i promised myself that this car was going to stay clean.

i found detailing forums such as autopia and lurked. everybody was talking about a pc 7424. that is what started me over the edge.

then it was different pads , then polishing products, them mf towels, then detail spray, then vaccumn cleaner, water blade, CCD, more and higher quality mf towels, new and different polishing/wax products, then one new lsp product until the last thing that i purchased that truly points that i have gone over the edge. that being a rotary buffer, rubber mounting velcro/pads, new product lines suited to use with the rotary.

oh ya, something else that should be mentioned is a digital camera, to show someone, other than my wife, that i really am doing all these things. fwiw, i bought two of those ,also. the first

one did the job. the second one does it better.

when does it stop...........
