what products after wetsanding

I wetsanded some dirt out of the new paint on my car last year. I started w/600 and left a few scratches in the back corner of the hood. I didn't really notice the scratches until after I polished the whole panel. They are 'colored in' pretty well, but I can still see them at the right angle. So, I want to go back and wetsand 'em out, but after all the sanding is done, what products and pads should I be using to get it back up? I'd like to stick with Meguiars products, but am willing to explore other products.

600 is gonna be tough- I doubt you will fully remove them but they can be improved upon. I'd suggest going over the area with 1500, 2000 and 2500 unigrit paper. then use a wool pad and rotary with a compound and work down to polishing pad and finishing polish with a PC. Hopefully the areas is small.

600 is way way to coarse.

throw away all your wet sand paper please!

bring it to a body shop and ask them to work on it using a paint thinkness gauge.

Okay, I have the idea of bringing the scratches to a haze, but then what products should I use? A medium cut or ???? In the past I used the 3M perfect it and perfect it II.

Perfect It II is a polish. What you need is a compound, yellow cutting pad or wool pad and a rotary polisher. I use Menzerna Power Gloss compound to quickly remove 1500 grit marks and follow it up with a polish and white pad.

I've used two "Perfect It" products on sanding scratches, but 3M makes a whole bunch of products under the "Perfect It" name.

PI-II Fine Cut Rubbing Compound (pn 39002 in the pint bottle) oughta work but don't breath the dust. PI-III RC 05933 is what I usually use. By rotary/hand/PC/Cyclo, those have done the job for me, even on Audi clear (though it did take a while).

But those will only remove 2K or finer scratches and even 2K is pushing it. I'd do the final sanding with 2500 or 3K.

Go with the 3M 05936 "Extra Cut" rubbing compound. It takes out 1000 grit sand scratches. The 05933 is too fine.

I agreed totaly with this , but try to to 1500 or 2000 grit first . it make polishing far easier.
