What product to use for "buffer hands"?

I have the worst cracked hands ever. :(

When I work and type in the morning after a shower, my hang nails instantly crack. It makes a "popping" noise. I've tried all the products listed here, with no good results, only 'ok' results. ok results = still cracking but not as much. The worst part is that it really, really hurts :(

I guess a trip to the dermo is in order? Has anyone been to the dermo for these types of things?

I love detailing, but my hands ugh...I can't get them moist enough. It makes for a painful detail. I haven't tried the socks on the hands thing yet. My fiancee may freak out, and my dog...will go nuts.

Yes a visit to the dermatologist or family doctor is a must if it is that bad.

You may get a cortisone medication that will aid in keeping the skin from becoming so raw.

Better to protect the skin from the chemicals. Our skin absorbs way more than you'd think. I personally don't want to cause long-term damage to my body. Today it is only my skin what's dry, but tomorrow it can be more serious...

It's scary when you take the gloves off and look to see that whatever got on them is now permeating the glove :nervous2:

Has anybody tried udder cream (not balm)? I end up working outside all winter and if don't use it after washing my hands they will crack and bleed in just a couple days. It dries completely and I only know I have it on when my hands get wet, it is not greasy and dries nicely. If you just use it every night it should keep your hands in great shape.

I buy it in 1 and 4 pound tubs at most Farm Supply type places for around $5/lb. The "medicated" version is a bit better but cost a hair more.

This stuff is great for muchkin road rash too.

Thanks everybody for supplying a great knowledge base.

udder balm...

I think there is a retail people version also. Otherwise use the cow stuff with cotton gloves overnight

A million udders can't be wrong. (I was so tempted to use another word; with the "ea" spelling of course, but thought that might be inappropriate or misinterpreted))
