What polish has the absolute lightest cut?

I have adopted countless new washing and drying strategies thanks to the many helpful people of this board. My black honda with its extremely soft paint however I still worry about taking too much clear off polishing a couple times a year with menzerna P085RD and black lake country pad. Because of my new excellent techniques, I barely have any swirls, just very minor marring and feel P085RD at 1.5 cut is too strong, as 1 pass gets rid of any marks and probably cuts deeper than needed. As much as I love menzerna, what is an even lighter polish that i could use to replace it? Or is the general consensus that its fine to use at this interval?

Lastly what is everyones favorite glaze or filler, as it would be nice to have that freshly polished car look without constantly removing clear.

thanks for any advice....here are a few pics after my latest spring detailing that reflect all of my autopian efforts:

Nice ride. Like you I was looking for the least aggressive polish as I keep my car pretty clean. Did not want to remove too much cc so I got 87MC. Cut is 1 compared to 1.5 for the 85rd. I like DWG as a glaze. You can put this glaze over or under any LSP without bonding issues. BTW nice photo skills.

i didnt read the whole thread but to answer your q in the title, ide say 106. Because IMO it only fills haha. Other then that just make it perfect with like ultrafina and then only wash the correct wways.

I guess you could cut your menzerna with something non-abrasive. RMG maybe, or moose wax. This is just a thought.

I really didn't think that polishing often using a finishing polish such as PO85RD with a finishing pad would take off that much clear coat. I had several people tell me that even doing touch ups every other month using a finishing polish or even Poliseal with a black or blue pad is safe. Is this true?

How about Poli-seal? Light correction (arguably some filling as well), looks good, easy to use. I find it quite effective on my Honda paint.

Agreed. Even with that soft Honda clear coat, you're not gonna hurt anything by using 85rd as much as you'd like. If it does appear to be a bit more than what you need, you can't (IMO) get a better (and more gentle) polish than Menzerna Final Polish II. It's about as gentle as you can get, and will finish off that Honda paint even better than 85rd.

Beautiful car, btw. :)

What about something non-abrasive for slight swirl removal? Werkstatts Prime or Prime Strong for instance.

Gotta have *some* degree of abrasiveness or you won't really be removing the marring ;)

The Prime Strong might do it with it's presumably *VERY* mild abrasives.

I'd probably try 1Z Metallic Polish with Wax, another *VERY* mild polish with some filling ability. Or even their (even milder) Wax Polish Soft, if it's still in production...that stuff is about as gentle as such things get; it's as mild as most cleaner-waxes IME.

Meg's #9/#81 might be another choice, or maybe VM.

I've heard so many good things about the IP and FPII that I bought the Get Aquainted Kit from PAC... can't wait to try it out. I'm salivating at the chance to see what it does on my bro in laws black Toyota, my sisters deep red Accord, and my silver Grand Prix.

I agree with most that 85RD is pretty safe and FPII safer still. But if you want something even milder you might want to try Vanilla Moose Hand Glaze. This is a great glaze that is also a very light polish. Don't let the name fool you, it also works great by machine.

Your car looks great with whatever you used on it, but if you want to try something else take a look at Carnauba Moose Wax.

youre not going to go through the CC as fast as you think....polish away...its the compounding that takes it away really fast

using megs 80 and a light polishing pad on toyota paint, I was told I could do it over 50 times around and be fine...83 about 30 times...then I would have to start looking at fillers and re-clearing the car

Probably FP2. I am positive it has less than 106FF, but I haven't used 85RD. Something like Meg's 9 (fillers and very light abrasives, I believe) might work for you. I also like the Prime Strong idea. That would eliminate a step.

Yes 85RD is low, but you can also look into "AIO" type cleaner/polishes as most are based on chemical than abrasive cleaning.

One glaze I wish I still could get is Liquid Ebony. That was one hell of a glaze for dark car finishes. Now, Menzerna also makes a glaze as well. Most glaze all do the same thing, some have more clay than others for filling. Meguiars, 3M, and others all have good glazes it's just what you're trying to match it with. If you use a sealant, a glaze is out of the question, but if waxing, it's your best friend. Zymol also has glazes as well, but also have wax in them. Notice Zymol labels some of the waxes "glaze"?

For light "cleaning" an AIO is your best bet. Or if you do run into some issues, then 85RD will be fine. I know as Porsche paint is very soft, so I too have to careful.

For now, I just use AIO type polishes for any cleaning, but switch to 85RD and a finish pad for those pesky marring swirls or whatever AIO will not take off.

Same for wetsanding, I have paper that goes down to 12,000 grit. Used for orange peel leveling. Also for metal work to bring it to a mirror finish.

Try not to stress over some light marring as it will be almost impossible on a black car finish unless you shoot it with a Ceramiclear.

Deanski

FP11 (PO87MC same as FP11) has a cut 1

85RD cut 1.5

106FF cut 2.5

I would go with FP11 or OP.
