i just bought a porter cable, some poorboys ssr1, and 2.5 to do my car, pads, and some micro fiber. what products are okay to use over the counter? mostly im lookin for waxes, and interior cleaning/protecting stuff for leather interior, and to do the dash and stuff on my 00 mustang.

the wax im using right now is meguiars, and it's pretty good stuff. i have heard good things about megs' products.

what interior stuff do you guys suggest?

I'd feel comfortable using almost anything from Mother's, especially if it's their FX or Reflections lines. I also like the Eagle One All Wheel and Tire Cleaner as well.

I'm not familiar enough with OTC interior cleaners to comment. I do like 303 Aerospace though. Is that considered over-the-counter? Besides that, I've only used Griot's.

I've had great success with a range of Meg's products. Their Deep Crystal three-step process is great, especially if you substitute the last step with Gold Class wax or NXT.

E1 A2Z

E1 Wipe and Shine

Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash

Meguiars All Season tire dressing

I find these products can easily stack up to ones you can order online.

Meg's Quik Detailer

Meg's ScratchX

Meg's Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Detailer

Meg's NXT Glass Cleaner

Meg's foam applicator pads

Mother's Chrome Polish

303 Aerospace Protectant

Klasse AIO

Klasse SG

Zymol microfiber towels

Zymol microfiber applicator pads

Adam's clay

Adam's microfiber towels

Einszett Glas Polish

Why does everyone here call the Reflections and FX lines OTC? Jeez where do you people live? Because I'd love it if just ONCE I could find anything other than Meguires NXT Insane Shine tire coating available locally. The only Mothers available locally for me is California Gold line and Power Series.

just about the only stuff i buy otc these days is mothers all wheel mist and stoners invisible glass. If you're lucky enough to have mother's reflections and fx line available locally, don't hesitate, those are some really exceptional products; definately a step up from any meg's you'll find otc.

here in my neck of the woods, there aren't any decent OTC products. Maybe a clay bar but that's about all i'd buy

The Pep-Girls here carry almost the complete line of mothers and megs consumer stuff. they have a few professional products.

The products that I get OTC are:

Eagle One All Wheel & Tire

Eagle One Wet Wipe & Shine (blue bottle)

Meguiar Quik Detailer - use primarily for clay lube

Meguiar NXT Glass Cleaner

Meguiar Metal Polish

Glass Scrub by Glass Science

303 Protectant

303 Washer Tablets

Stoner's Invisible Glass

Turtle Wax F-21 Wheel and Tire cleaner

Clay Magic fine grade

ScratchX - don't use anymore much now that I have a PC

PlastiX

Mother's Back-to-Black - don't use anymore though

Mother's Plastic Polish - don't use anymore

So far as interior OTC products, I like:

  • Woolite/water for general interior cleaning (dilute per needs, but 10:1 usually works well for me)

Meg's Quick Interior Detailer (gives a very clean look w/o adding gloss)

303 Protectant (can be found OTC-check their website for a local dealer)

Stoner's IG or Eagle 20/20 (use with good MF)

For exterior:

  • NXT wax (often gets "forgotten", but gives good shine & depth for an OTC although moderate durability)

TW Platinum Detailer (I've been picking this up at Big Lots for about $3.50 and it's a great supplement to the NXT)

    303 Protectant (again!)

TW Tire Wax (moderate shine, lasts well with NO sling)

At this point in my life, I've stayed OTC on my car--it's driven every day and catches a lot of fallout at work. I give it enough care that the durability of the NXT isn't an issue for me. Just remember that proper PREP is the key to any product looking good and you should be fine.

If you are going to be machine polishing it before hand then I would say go for Mother's Reflections Wax and Top Coat as you LSP Wax.
