What makes driving so fun?

What makes driving so enjoyable for you?

For me it has to be, alone, open spacee, no distractions, going through turns fast, and the adreniline rush.

How bout you?

I love rush hour, people cutting you off, pedestrians that walk right infront of you, cops that pull you over, accidents, construction that makes 3 lane road into one, slow moving traffic, traffic lights that are broken, etc.

I'm kinda with ejant. Taking fast corners and being in control are big ones.

Occasionally I'll get in the mood where "technical driving" is my game and I'll try to drive as perfectly and efficiently as possible, and make smart tactical moves. This goes hand in hand with driving fast and "aggressive" driving but with the twist that it angers no one and is safe.

I also like to turn off the radio once in a while and hear the machinery work. I'll delay my shifts sometimes and punch it to hear the horses snarl a bit from my unsilenced intake. That's always real satisfying, especially when I reminisce about the 4-banger slugs I used to drive! :xyxthumbs

  • AWD launches
  • G-forces (in any and all directions)
  • AWD and Blizzaks in the snow
  • The perfect downshift
  • The perfect apex
  • Turbo intake noise
  • Boxer exhaust note
  • Driving the cleanest car on the road :D

Tort

Twisties in graet scenery. I love driving the 1 lane highways in New Jersey and Pensylvania Farm Country....Oh the smell of fresh hay and manure. The mountain views of New York State, Vermont, and Maine while having the road to myself.

Mountain driving RULES!

Any hill climbing or descends are really fabulous!!

Or, if you want to hammer your car,

TRACK!

NOTHING beats track driving, going to the extreme, the edge, and being able to go over the edge (without breaking anything but tires.....) it really gets you near your car, helps you understand a lot better, and show you what it is capable of.....

Being alone - listening to favorite songs -- and having time to think without someone saying "Mama....." :D

I also love the feel of my car when I'm driving it... I don't know all the mechanical/techinical terms -- it just feels good to drive my car!!

Lowering the top and listening to the Quad exhaust, under-carriage ram-air and the feel of raw American V-8 Muscle under my foot. No stereo needed, these sounds are the only music needed. Living in a rural area any road around here will do. :xyxthumbs

Driving something that's fully paid, doesn't cost that much to run, GAS makes it much more enjoyable, it's quiet most of the time, makes noises whenever, however you want, enjoy's it when you STEP (allover) on it, not only does it have curves, it HUG curves too and if you're driving a muscle car, the 0 to 60 of that baby's better than an org***.... Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a perfect relationship, perfect glimpse of heaven, Autopia incarnate.

For me, it's the sense of freedom and serenity when driving. I have to play some sort of music. But the music I play reflects my mood at the time.

Dark two lane blacktop, windows down, and a full moon. I have some roads like that around here full with trees on either side. I can either pump up the stereo or just listen to the motor hum.

A good cruise thru town Fri or Sat night. I love to see the kids in the Mustangs, imports, etc, craning their necks to read the lettering on the back of my car and rolling down their windows to hear the exhaust. Nothing like the feeling when kids go by giving you a "thumbs up" and telling you to "get on it"! Takes me back to the muscle car days, when I couldn't afford one of the cool cars. It makes me feel like a lucky guy and I forget all the days problems and stress.

I know what you mean. It is nice to get the :xyxthumbs from the pretenders and seeing the envy from the rest. Nothing beats the rumble of a American V-8 ( Mustangs sound great also) until you get to the Ferrari/ Lambo roar. Sadly these will be sounds of the past with the demise of the f-bodies, the high price for new Vettes, and the down-sizing of the Mustang to less than 5.0 liters.

I think I'll start-up all 5 of my V-8's and create from audio fireworks for the 4th.:bounce

dlw, nice pix of the tip pipes. That car looks mean just standing still.

Have a great 4th everyone. It goes without stating that a great ride does not include alcohol.
