what makes a good MF drying towel

What makes a good MF towel? Is it more the polyester/polyamide blend or is it the weave or maybe the strands per square inch. I haven't found as much love for these towels as many of you have and I'm wondering if I'm just not getting the right towel. Don't get me wrong I love MF towels for most jobs but for drying a car I find the ones I've been using still don't make the car any more dry than the absorber. The last towel I tried is Autogeeks Cobra, it's a 80/20 blend and it's not terribly absorbant. I will say the gave me a heal of a deal, each towel was about 7 bucks and shipping free so I'm not complaining, but I'm still searching for the best drying towel.

I have to say that I am a fan of the Meguiar's Water Magnet. I have several premium chamois and no longer use them. I've tried the Absorber and it was just average. I can dry my whole SUV with one 22" x 30" Water Magnet towel. It absorb s a lot more water than a chamois and removes all traces of moisture. I think it's the waffle weave and premium microfiber material that makes all the difference.

Burly, I find those purple ones you got at AutoGeek (same that ACC used to sell) to be about the softest and best absorbing, as jfelbab said, the Meg's Water Magnet is also very good, but not quite as soft. If you're looking for love, perhaps try the big Microtex MF terry drying towels from WalMart; Spilchy swears by them (and you can always used them for after shower if you don't like them on the car...)

i think the best technique is to use a WW for removing the big water after washing-then use a plush MF and a good QD to shine up any little water trails that might be left

As I wrote in the other thread, try the combo of the microtex followed by exceldetail's Monterey WW. If you want only one, as I also wrote it it has to be the Monterey WW.



Edit: What in my eyes makes a good towel is the fiber mainly (the microtex is not WW and it's a camel....)



The properties I look in a good drying towel are FAST absorbency, ability to absorb a big amount of water, and most important of everything: Once you dry a spot it is truly DRY. Some towels still leave minor trails when they gstart getting saturated. If a towel does this, I keep going fast and give a final pass with a new dry towel. It is faster that way. Did I mention it has to be soft?
