What makes a good hose?

PrinzII,

I can go a couple of years from a Suncraft bought at HD. They do break, but they also have a lifetime warranty. I just call em' up and get my replacement parts.

I got a cheapie at Sams Warehouse. It was a 50 footer for about $30. I got two of them. I got them because they were "rubber" and very soft and pliable and guaranteed not to kink. (my pet peeve) They came with a 5 year guarantee. After two years of abusing it with a heavy nozzle on the end I started a tear on the end of the rubber near the brass fitting. I had saved the tag with the guarantee (I always do that!) so I emailed the company. I eventually made contact with them and they sent me a new hose!

Moral: Look for a guarantee, save the paperwork, cost isn't everything!:xyxthumbs

Excellent point Brad but after 5 years under warranty and maybe a maximum of 10 years of usage. You will have to purchase a new hose at ~$30. My point is that at $50 -$75 you get a known quality product ( Craftman) from a nationwide company (Sears) and a lifetime warranty. Therefore one time purchase at the $50-$75 range and a good hose for life. No paperwork needed just the defect/ worn hose. :nixweiss

Yea, I guess yours makes better sense. But I didn't admit why I really bought my Sams special........it was RED!:D

I have to fully extend my hose anyways when I'm washing my car, so I like the flat hose. I really like the the nozzle it comes with that allows me to put soap in the head of it. I use it to soak the car after rinsing on top of the way I usually painstakingly wash.

YoSteve: Can you answer a few questions concerning the flat hose?

1. Does it kink?

2. Ease of use?

3. Where did you purchase?

4. Est. of durability?

5. Length?

6. Price?

BTW: I have to fully extend ( the hose) so that is not a problem.

Thanks for the response.

Direct From Walmart. I will check prices my next tour thru the store.

A complete quick connect set male and female. The blue side threads to the hose, threaded side and the male threads to the nozzle. The Black ring is compressed to the blue, pretty easy, and insert the mating insert. I picked up a few and added them to the kids water spray toys. Works great.

1. Does it kink? Not any more than the cheap other hoses I have.

2. Ease of use? I like it, the last 3 big hose reels I got broke.

3. Where did you purchase? Internet, at a "as seen on tv" site (there are many)

4. Est. of durability? It's pretty durable, I treat it good. It has a lifetime guarantee (supposedly)

5. Length? 6. Price? $20 for 25 ft (get the longer one)

The best part is that you don't get dirty reeling it up. That more than makes up for having to let it all out, IMO. I can't stand dirt on my kahkis (I wash sometimes after work) so this hose is good.

BTW, nice toes! j/k, cropping works though ;)

Here goes, I bought 2 50-foot Sears Best, connected together with brass cuplers, quick disconnects on both ends---one for the nozzle and one for the water connector. I keep both on a Groit's rubber tired hose reel (best money I spent in years).....easy to roll and unroll. I want the Groit's yellow bucket on wheels but the wife can't seem to understand why I would spend $80 on a bucket......she's clueless. ;)

I use the multifunction rubber-coated pistol nozzel, and mainly use the shower spray. I learned this lesson the hard way, relpaced the old metal nozzle when one day I dropped it on the quarter panel, left a nice dime size dent. Now, rubber all the way.

BTW, I haven't posted in awhile, lost my post count...have to start all over. lol

My wife got it and got me a yellow bucket and the incredibly expensive sprayer last Christmas..

My concern with those plastic sprayers is the the plastice piece that pulls and pushes on the brass nut that opens the sprayer always plays out in a year or two.. the Griots item is billet anodized aluminum with a lifetime warranty..

LostPup,

I have that same spray nozzle (got it at Lowe's) and I like it alot!! The rubber coating around the edge is great -- and it's nice to be able to change from shower to jet. Mist is great for showering down the kids!! ;)

Did Sears discontinue their premium garden hose? The most expensive one on their web site is $40. It does come with a lifetime guarantee though.

I did get one last week. It's a good hose. I was just puzzled because the earlier posts indicated that they were more expensive.

After using the Sears rubber hose at a customer's home, we promptly took our detailing $$ and went to buy one!! It's the best hose I've ever used and worth every cent!

Plus, the salesman said he was on his fourth hose. He bought his years and years ago, and brings them back when they wear out to get a new replacement. Pretty cool! :up
