What is your hand position while driving?

I usually have mine switching between my drink, the news paper, the radio, and my cell phone. In the morning I usually have my paper, bowl of cereal, and radio. Cell phone is usually in the afternoons only. :p j/k of course.

Most of my driving is strraight highway, so I just have a handresting on my leg holding the wheel at 6 or one of the door holding the wheel at 9. I'm usually all alone on the 3 lane interstate in the middle lane.

9 and 3 is usually where I am. What really bothers me is when I see people reclined in their seats and so far away from the wheel. I like to sit a little closer to the wheel, using my shoulders to turn the wheel, not my arms. Then, I also see short women so close to the wheel that I'm afraid an airbag would do them bodily damage.

Normal driving I have my left hand at 9 and my right hand on the shifter...once into 5th I usually do 9 and 3.

First and second gear I'm just trying to hang on as best I can :D

Hmm, I think you can tell alot about where someone is from by how they use their hands while driving:

One hand on wheel,

one hand on horn:

CHICAGO.

One hand on wheel,

middle finger out window:

NEW YORK.

One hand on wheel,

middle finger out window,

cutting across all lanes of traffic:

NEW JERSEY.

One hand on wheel,

one hand on newspaper,

foot solidly on accelerator:

BOSTON.

One hand on wheel,

one hand on nonfat

double decaf cappuccino,

cradling cell phone,

brick on accelerator,

gun in lap:

LOS ANGELES.

Both hands on wheel,

eyes shut,

both feet on brake,

quivering in terror:

OHIO,

but driving in

CALIFORNIA.

Both hands in air,

gesturing,

both feet on accelerator,

head turned to talk to

someone in back seat:

ITALY.

One hand on 12oz. double shot latte,

one knee on wheel,

cradling cell phone,

banging head on steering wheel

while stuck in traffic:

SEATTLE.

One hand on wheel,

one hand on hunting rifle,

alternating between both feet

being on the accelerator

and both feet on brake,

throwing McDonald's

bag out the window:

TEXAS.

Four-wheel drive pick-up truck,

shotgun mounted in rear window,

beer cans on floor,

squirrel tails attached to antenna:

OKLAHOMA.

Two hands gripping wheel,

blue hair barely

visible above windshield,

driving 35 on the Interstate

in the left lane

with the left blinker on:

FLORIDA.

One hand on the wheel,

the other on his sister:

ARKANSAS.

Did I miss any? :)

lol :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs :D

Back when I had my MG Midget it was one hand on the fuse box, the other wiping the windshield while steering with my knees in the rain!

I decided to get into Alfa Romeos cuz I wanted to drive at night with the lights AND the radio on!!

Actually I loved that little MG and I drive at the proper Italian 8 & 4 o'clock position and shuffle steer.

Mama told me one hand on the wheel and one hand on the girl was sufficient for neither.

LOL! Quite the observation she made there.

Just cruising around, my left hand is at 12 o'clock, and my right hand is on the shifter. If I am driving aggressively, or in heavy traffic, 9 and 3, I have a 3 spoke steering wheel, so that is the most comfortable place.

LOL! Bfourney,

Hand resting on lap at 6 oclock at cruising speeds. When shifting, left hand's at 7-9. Heavy traffic 9 and 3.
