What is this?

Okay so I polished my mothers car with my new pads and I noticed there are little spots everywhere. You can't feel them, clay won't get them out, and obviously the Flex can't touch it. You can only see them in the sun or under the halogens.

The other thing is something wierd going on in the clear. I don't know what this is either so I'll post pics for you to see.

Here are the spots on the right side

This is how it looks every where

Heres the other thing going on with the clear(the spots in these pics is dust, not the spotting in other pics)

And on another area

The car has never seen sap. Might be something along the lines though. There are different area of the car that have that. I didn't hit it too much with the polish cause it already looked like the clear was starting to fail.

Bird doo doo is eating through the paint, have seen it before on many of my customers cars, not much you an do. If you keep polishing it you will just tear away more clear.

Well, those other, smaller dots are typically hail, acid rain, or small rocks from the tires.

(Recently had a black WRX with spotting so bad behind the wheel wells it was a whole difference, lighter shade about a foot or two back on each wheel well)

Yet, with how even the spotting is, and it's location, it reall could be hail, easy.

.02c...

Some acid water etching too. I see lots of newer black paints with this issue. Mostly foreign cars.

They can be improved 90% and cut out just right to give the illusion of them being gone. It all depends on the thinkness of the clear. If the clear is nice and thick, then wetsanding can also improve and/or maybe remove them all. It all depends on how far they sank too. I've seen some bird etching melt the clears into the base coat leaving an impression in the base coat.

What type of vehicle is it?

i think that they are the flakes if it is a metallic paint....Not sure but happened to my when i was detailing some black metallic cars including mine...

Thanks for all the input everyone.

No its not metallic, its just black.

It is an 01 Toyota Rav 4

The thing wasn't taken care of from day one, so I wasn't expecting 100% correction especially with out a rotary. Once I saw the "etching" I didn't want to go anymore because it didn't look good at all. It very well could be bird bomb etching, I don't know why I didn't think of it but I haven't ever seen it this bad. Thanks again.
