What is the best DA/Orbital buffer out there?

I'm looking to invest in a DA polisher this summer, because I hear the DA is easier to use, and has less potential to harm the paint.

What are everyone's thoughts?

How would the PC 7424 be? That's the one I've been looking at.

Thats what everyone around here uses. I think its the best. But thats the only one I have used.

The PC 7424 and 7336 are the one's to purchased. The only difference as far as I know is the counter weight. The 7424 is a lighter weight than the 7336. You can purchase a counter weight from most vendors and change it yourself. I have not done so but have read the the larger counter weight produces less vibration when using a larger pad.

I would buy a Festool Rotex. It is a DA polisher that has a mixed rotary-DA mode that breaks down polishes well and remove defects far better than a PC.

yes i agree with shineboy, Festool rotex 150 is by far more powerful than porter cable. i hear that rotex 150 is used at mercedes plant in stuggart Germany for line finishing. in rotex mode it breaks down polishes quickly and you can see results right away.

Festool might be a great tool but for $350 you could have both a PC and a Makita Rotary.

Yes, definitely a case of "you get what you pay for" with the Festool. Keep in mind it will do 95% of what the straight rotary machines will do when run in "Rotex" mode, so unless you run into something really horrible, it has you covered.

The specifications say that it's rotary speed is from 240 - 560 rpm. That's a little on the slow side for a rotary. This machine looks like it's best suited for sanding wood projects. No offense intended.

No offense taken, it's always a pleasure to educate. This machine does not do a straight rotary action, in Rotex mode it still incorporates an orbital motion while utilizing forced rotation, so there's a lot more going on than the plain-jane circular motion of a rotary.

Sorry guys, PC > Festool... $149 > $350. Price is a factor in my case.

I just bought a PC7424. ~ $180 shipped with backing plate and a bunch of pads. If you search you'll find the thread with the links, but it was from the Pinnacle web site, one of their package deals. PC, plate, 2 orange, 2 white, 3 grey pads under $180 (use the DC coupon code).

If I were a first time PC buyer and knew at that point what I know now. This would be the set up I would go with.

Yeah, it looks really nice. It looks like it has everything I would need to start out, and at a fair price.
