What is proper Hand Glaze technique?

Used 3M Imperial Hand Glaze for the first time, yesterday - by hand on an recently-painted panel.



Do you "work it" much, like a polish, or do you apply and remove, like a wax or sealant?



I applied a quater-sized amount to 2 x 2' section with a foam applicator by hand, using firm, small circular strokes until it started to dry. Then I let it sit for a few minutes to completely dry, and removed with a MF towel.



After application, there was definitely a haze of product and removal was easier if it had completely dried.



I fell like amount, method, etc. is OK, but results-wise, I guess it's sort of hard to tell with glaze ...

Result-wise, I'm not too impressed with the IHG either. Meg's "pure polishes", which are also fresh-paint-safe, always look/feel a lot better to me. I compared the IHG with Meg's #5 (side-by-side) and I haven't touched my IHG since



I apply the IHG about the way you did, but I don't rub it in very much. Since it doesn't have any abrasives or cleaners (other than whatever cleaning the solvents might do), I don't see any point to "working" it. So yeah, it's more like a wax (consider it a "fresh paint friendly LSP").



I usually wipe it off while still a little wet and then giving it a final buff, but I dunno if that's any better than just letting it dry (I don't like to let the Meg's pure polishes dry all the way either, except maybe #5).



Maybe apply it thinner, using just enough product to cover the area. Sounds like you use a *lot* more product than I do. Your technique sounds pretty much like the label instructions IIRC, but I'd go easy on the "firm pressure", since it doesn't need to break down.

If I use a Glaze such as One Grand, I tend to work it slightly longer than I would a wax.

Thanks. After reading your reply, I am thinking I need to treat it much more like a sealant than I did. Maybe that 3M container was putting out SMR vibes ...







I am hoping to use it only 3-4 more times, because after that paint cures (and I get the body shop swirls out), I want to do AIO+SG+UPP.

Well, be sure you wait long enough- better too long than not long enough I still haven't put the Klasse twins on the MPV's rear hatch and bumper cover and they were painted quite a while ago. But then I gotta admit I sorta like using #5 so I'm not in any big hurry.



Seems like everybody knows about 3m IHG and a lot of people use it on fresh paint...if Meg's would promote their #5 they could blow the IHG out of the water but you never hear anything about it :nixweiss
