what happened to zaino...

Zano was a sealant that was out when everyone was waxing. Now that there are coatings and super sealants, it does not stand out.

It has to be the most polarizing detailing product ever.

With the right marketing, new products, and better distribution channels, they could really become a force to be reckoned with again

I still have some Z2, and ZFX. Might have to dust it off for old times sake.

I remember people would list in their sig how many layers were on their vehicle like they were building up some type force field.

I know lol...I remember one of the guys on one of the 350Z forums that bragged about having over 100 coats lol....

Oddly, my conversation with Sal Zaino (a few years back)...he said it was a spray wax so that's what I went by.
Nonetheless, for a Saturday night out...it is awesome to spray on your vehicle...no matter what's it's made of.

Sal also calls Z2 and Z5 "polishes" so I guess his terminology is different than the norm.

Wow. Most I ever had was 32 when I first started using it. Just a SWAG but that was probably around 22 layers of wasted product.

I put tick marks on the garage wall with a pencil to keep track of layers because I always lost track. My daughter thought that was the silliest thing ever.

My bride also found it hilarious that I would go shopping for 100% cotton towels at JC Penney and spend more for them than the ones we used in the house. Then the blonde border free towels came out and created a fury. If they were in stock you had better order immediately or they would be gone. I remember checking the site routinely for them, top of the screen message if they were back in stock. Perhaps more debate about those when they were released than Zaino itself.

When first got into this hobby 3 years ago i used Zaino exclusively and i was awed by this line. Fast forward three years later I put on Opt Gloss Coat that was just as easy to apply, just as reflective and more durable. That was the end of Zaino for me. Still a great product for sure but somewhat of a pain to mix the bottles and I saw a bunch of streaking with it at times.

Of course coatings are more expensive but if Zaino had a rinseless, then a really good carpro essense like product that cut really well and left some protection combined with 1-3 layers of z2-z5 i would probably use that type of combination. Unfortunately, no new products for years and I don't expect any. I think PBMG should acquire them (for the right price of course) and restructure the marketing deals. It would go a long way to at least a hobbyist like me to return to the line since I really still like their stuff.

So what was it that took you all away from zaino?
For me it was optiseal and bf spray sealant
And this forum

But aio and z8 will always have a place in my heart :)

I never drank the Zaino coolaid, but used it every now and again.

For me, there so many more new and exciting, easier to use products.

The ZAIO does not have much cut, but it a very strong paint cleaner. I still like using it on the black piano finish plastic coatings that are on the door pillars. Works great on that material.

Even though they're too mild to correct paint any for me, I've had the ZAIO's abrasives do some pretty nasty micromarring to certain black plastics, including ones I'd successfully used other AIOs and even abrasive polishes on previously (e.g., the black plastic parts of Audi sideview mirrors). Not sure why it messed these surfaces up so badly, must just be the nature of the abrasives. Had to do a good polishing with other stuff (straight-abrasive polish) to get them looking OK again. So while I do like ZAIO, I'd be *VERY* careful about using ZAIO on such surfaces, even ones that can take some abrasion.

I still use ZAIO and Z8. That's a great combo. I have a bottle of Clear Seal that's 8 years old and still works fine. That's a pretty darn good shelf life.

Z8 would fit right in with all the spray this and thats people use now a days. Was ahead of its time.

Still love the stuff. Bought z-2 and z-5 a couple of months ago and forgot how much I like it. To me nothing comes close to the unique look you get out of it on black, red, blue solid colors. Plus after layering it actually has different feel to it when wiping clean. It has by far the most reflection on black and has a reflective plastic look on solid colors.
